Publisher's summary

He gave up the money. He gave up the power. Now all he has left is the law.

Michael Brock is billing the hours, making the money, rushing relentlessly to the top of Drake & Sweeney, a giant DC law firm. One step away from partnership, Michael has it all. Then, in an instant, it all comes undone.

A homeless man takes nine lawyers hostage in the firm's plush offices. When it is all over, the man's blood is splattered on Michael's face - and suddenly Michael is willing to do the unthinkable. Rediscovering a conscience he lost long ago, Michael is leaving the big time for the streets where his attacker once lived - and where society's powerless need an advocate for justice.

But there's one break Michael can't make: from a secret that has floated up from the depths of Drake & Sweeney, from a confidential file that is now in Michael's hands, and from a conspiracy that has already taken lives. Now Michael's former partners are about to become his bitter enemies. Because to them, Michael Brock is the most dangerous man on the streets....

Featured Article: The Essential John Grisham in Audio

John Grisham is best known for his fast-paced legal thrillers and mysteries, many of which have been adapted for television and film. Because he’s so prolific and has been writing for decades, it can be difficult to know where to begin when selecting a title from his impressive back catalog. And Grisham is definitely a jack-of-all-trades: he’s written not only legal thrillers, but nonfiction, a series for kids, some humorous novels, and recently, a new mystery series outside of the legal thriller genre. To help you decide which Grisham gem to download next, we’ve compiled a list of the very best.

Absolutely outstanding!

I just finished this book today had to stop what I was doing and write a review. I thought I had listened to or read all of Grisham's good books. (Every author writes bad ones. Grisham is no exception.) But how in the world this one got past me all these years is a travesty. This story is eye opening, sad, fascinating, entertaining, and addicting, all rolled into one. If you are a human being and this doesn't open your eyes to just a glimpse of what the world of homelessness is like, then there's no hope for you. I found myself in the law office. I could visualize each detail. Each character. Each face of the homeless. It is just truly a great story.
The narrator - Frank Muller is one of the best I've ever listened to. He brings the characters to life. He hit this one out of the park.

The Street Lawyer

Another great book by 'King' Grisham! His chosen subject surely opens our eyes to a devastating social disgrace. The narrator is wonderful.

good review of an important topic

even if you think you know about homelessness you probably want to read this entertaining book to deepen your understanding. there is a chronic lack of understanding of the problem here ìn the United States.

Learning about the lives of the homeless and the compassionate Souls who advocate for them.

I appreciate greatly the knowledge I now have about the many who have fallen through the cracks. It is indeed a stain on our society. Many of us are not far from finding ourselves in their plight.
