The Stranger You Know Audiobook

The Stranger You Know

It begins with a chilling phone call to Casey Woods. And ends with another girl dead. College-age girls with long red hair. Brutally murdered, they're posed like victims in a film noir. Each crime scene is eerily similar to the twisted fantasy of a serial offender now serving thirty years to life - a criminal brought to justice with the help of Forensic Instincts. Call. Kill. Repeat. But the similarities are more than one psychopath's desire to outdo another.

Publisher's Summary

It begins with a chilling phone call to Casey Woods. And ends with another girl dead.

College-age girls with long red hair. Brutally murdered, they're posed like victims in a film noir. Each crime scene is eerily similar to the twisted fantasy of a serial offender now serving thirty years to life - a criminal brought to justice with the help of Forensic Instincts.

Call. Kill. Repeat. But the similarities are more than one psychopath's desire to outdo another. As more red haired victims are added to the body count, it becomes clear that each one has been chosen because of a unique connection to Casey - a connection that grows closer and closer to her.

Now the Forensic Instincts team must race to uncover the identity of a serial killer before his ever tightening circle of death closes in on Casey as the ultimate target. As the stalker methodically moves in on his prey, his actions make one thing clear: he knows everything about Casey. And Casey realizes that this psychopath won't stop until he makes sure she's dead.

What works for me are books that involve me quickly with characters. This did and held my attention throughout. I recommend it.

    "Worst narration I ever heard."
Is there anything you would change about this book?

NARRATOR started the story in an annoying sing-song style. If the story hadn't been so great, I would have stopped listening and returned the book. About halfway through the book, the action begins to get more intense, and the narration improved. Once the suspense decreased after catching the killers, the sing-song style returned to the narration. This book would be greatly improved with a new Narrator. I would suggest Susan Ericksen.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Ryan is my favorite character. I love to see the new inventions he creates in each book, and how he decides to use them to catch the villains. His smart aleck replies are very amusing. The developing relationship between him and Claire is also interesting and adds to the romances found in Ms. Kane's novels.

How could the performance have been better?

Someone from the Audible Publisher's House should have listened to the first hour of the recording. No intelligent person would have ever accepted that annoying narration. Every other review that I read about this audible edition criticizes the narration.

Could you see The Stranger You Know being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

I think the FI series would make a great TV series with all the different characters and their individual foibles, the computer genius, the psychic, the ex-seal, the intelligent animal, the behaviorist, and the retired FBI agent. I think young new actors should be given the chance to develop these great characters.

    Any additional comments?

I pre-ordered the 4th book in this collection last week. After listening to it (with a great narrator), I ordered the first three books. The first two were as good as the fourth, only #3, The Stranger You Know, was disappointing. It is a shame that the author doesn't have the right to veto this narration.

    "The Team You Know"
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

The characters all had great potential, but they never really materialized, just seem to be in outline format. They all had great backgrounds/credentials, but author failed to get a deeper depth of them. See Lisa Gardener for a mystery that will take you on a journey.

Would you be willing to try another book from Andrea Kane? Why or why not?

no, this author is not for me. She was a romance writer that I never pursued, but thought her mysteries would be better. I would say this needed better editing.

What does Angela Dawe bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I only purchased this book due to Ms Dawe reading it. Her male voices are yummy and she did fine with this story. See her reads from Julie Garwood/ I.R.S., Nora Roberts/ MacGregor series and my fave Tiffany Snow series. Yum. These are romances.

    Any additional comments?

If you are a fan of this author, note: this story is best listened at new 1.25x speed

"Love the Team AAAGH! struggled with the reader."
Would you consider the audio edition of The Stranger You Know to be better than the print version?

YES ! Great team of people utilizing all aspects of the system. Body, mind, and soul!

Who was your favorite character and why?

The Dog! I love that he is essentially a lead to discovery in each book. AND CLAIR - the two powers in the life that we cannot see, scent and animal instinct and our natural personal positive and negative energy!

How did the narrator detract from the book?

I felt like she never completed a sentence. Her voice went up and the end of each sentence. Felt very unconnected to the book. If I hadn't enjoyed the first two books and the story line so much I would have returned it. It took me about three starts to learn to ignore the voice and focus on the book. I thought that maybe it would change by the end, but it didn't. Sorry the voice and the characters did not fit for me.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I enjoy the positive angle and release that the connection between two people can have. The fact that truly finding someone to have and trust and the ability to be vulnerable and week in a safe way is what we all seek.

    Any additional comments?

Looking forward to the next one hoping for another performer, if not, I may have to skip it.

"LOVE THESE STORIES..THE NEW NARRATOR, NOT SO MUCH"
Would you consider the audio edition of The Stranger You Know to be better than the print version?

No - the narrator is very distracting and not at all how we know the FI characters. Why do Hutch and Mark, arguable the two strongest male characters have wimpy voices? And, Claire sounds like a airhead - even though there is more character development in this story...

What other book might you compare The Stranger You Know to and why?

The Rosary Girls (Montanari), same theme of targeted females and crime solving.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Angela Dawe?

    Scott Brick, Renee Raudman

    Any additional comments?

Interesting series. Looking forward to the next title - and new narrator.

    "Ear Ache"
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

15 seconds in and I'm regretting buying this. The narrator is, I'm sorry to say, painfully terrible. Every other sentence sounds like a question. Also it seems she is only capable of conveying either anger or absolute monotony.

Words like 'bleed' are pronounced ble-eed for example. . Most annoying and difficult to listen to.

And I can't tell the difference between when she's narrating as the computer or as Patrick

Would you be willing to try another one of Angela Dawe’s performances?

    Absolutely not

    Any additional comments?

I don't generally like leaving negative comments but this is one book I wish I'd sampled before I bought it. Had I heard her narrating I would not have bought it. Shame really cause the story is good

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I could not even stand this for 10 minutes, The story may be good but I could not get past the reader.

Would you be willing to try another one of Angela Dawe’s performances?

    Doubt it!

    "Good story, TERRIBLE narrator!!!"
Is there anything you would change about this book?

Is there one thing I would change??? Heck, yes! Have Jim Colby, the original narrator, read the book!

What didn’t you like about Angela Dawe’s performance?

Angela Dawe is a horrid reader!!! I cannot stand it when someone does not end a sentence in a period. She reads the WHOLE story as if every period is "..." and so she hangs each end of the sentence. It is sooooo annoying! It's almost too annoying to endure the whole 10-/12 hours!!! OMG!

She does not do other voices well either. WHY would a new narrator be brought in for book 3 and book 4 in the Forensic Instincts series?? This book should have never been released with this narrator!

    Any additional comments?

I enjoy the stories. They are entertaining but only when the narrator reads it well. A narrator should not be so distracting that it's tough to hear and follow the story.

"Not as well done as other 3 in series"

Disappointed in narration - Andrea Dawe had an annoying inflection in her voice. Preferred Jim Colby's reading of the other three books in the series. Storyline weak in this book.

What would have made The Stranger You Know better?

Believe the other reviews...the worst robotic reading voice I've ever heard.

Would you ever listen to anything by Andrea Kane again?

I enjoy the Forensic Insticts series...the book was OK but ended very abruptly

Would you be willing to try another one of Angela Dawe’s performances?

    ABSOLUTELY NOT
