Unexpectadly captivating

I was hesitant to listen to this book due to subject matter (Nazis). I was pleasantly surprised at the depth of the story, the unexpected character interactions, and the ending plot twist. Of course the overwhelming sadness was present due to the horrid plight of the Jews. I also liked getting to hear various performers versus the normal one or two trying usually unsuccessfully to change their voices. Outstanding book overall. I would say this is a MUST read.

It couldn’t be better!

The story is complex and captivating. The readers have taken the story to an even higher level. Truly, I could not stop listening.

Character Development

Narrators were believable. The way the author developed the characters was a really good lesson in writing. She is my new favorite author. Thank you for a wonderful story about what people had to endure during WW II

This book blew me away

I am a fan of Jodi Picoult’s but this book is her best so far. Her character development was outstanding and the description of the victims of the Holocaust had me in tears. While the ending was not a total surprise, the way she got to it left me satisfied. I highly recommend this book!

Loved it!

I loved this book so much that I listened to it again, several years after the first time. It deals with tough issues, but the underlying theme of hope shines throughout the story.

My 2nd picoult book and now a new fan!

She illustrates such a beautifully, tragic, and heart wrenching story with her words. I tend to stray away from novels about the holocaust because of how utterly reprehensibly Jewish people were treated/murdered, but I’m so glad I listened to all of the 5 star reviews. I wanna urge all to read/listen to this novel. So beautifully and hauntingly written at times. I cried and smiled so many times. My only disappointment was that there was not an addendum by the author talking about her research for the novel like she did with Leaving Time.

Didn’t want it to end that way!

Great story, but I wanted to change the ending! Narration was perfect. Story was thought provoking.

Powerful story!

This is a great story. I liked the historic facts about the holocaust and the three different stories from Sage, Minka and the novel Minka was writing. I listened to most of the story at 1.25 speed, specially the part of Minka's story was really slow for me. I really enjoyed the story!
