Excellent!

When I began reading I felt somewhat bored; but after I got into her grandmother's story and that of Joseph's I was compelled to finish the book as quickly as possible.
There were many twists and turns that I was not expecting. I actually gasped out loud.
It was not of formula style story at all. The characters intertwined with each other which made it interesting.
I wasn't a fan of the author before this book; now I am. Her writing style brings clarity and vividness to the storyline.

Great work by Jodi Picoult

Any additional comments?

If you're like me, you have read several Jodi Picoult novels... and they all seem so similar to each other. Maybe it's been a while since I've read one, or maybe I'm fully accurate in this thought - it was much, much deeper than any of her other work. More layers and storylines. I thoroughly enjoyed it, along with the different voice actors differentiating the storylines. Only complaint is that the ending felt very abrupt after how thorough the story was.

What a stunner

This woman knows how to write I have listened to this book twice & can't believe how well Jodi Picoult portrays the way people feel, behave and live who they are. All her characters are solid well defined people & even with a subject as difficult as the holocaust, she writes with such understanding of the different feelings & emotions of all involved, whether survivors, victims or perpetrators. I know I will come back to this book again & again. As I do with many of Jodi Picoult's books. They stimulate MY emotions & feelings.

Nothing is as it seems!

What made the experience of listening to The Storyteller the most enjoyable?

The narrators did a wonderful job bringing the characters to life. The story was absorbing and yet very hard to hear in parts....so much pain in people's lives. Watching some of them triumph over the past gives me hope!

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Storyteller?

The gripping account of the grandmother's experiences in the death camps in Germany during WWII. It was told in such a way that you didn't escape the horror, but also brought humanity not only to the prisoners, but to one particular German. So stunningly told, you feel as if you now know for yourself what it was like to be a Jew in the death camps. Perfectly told, telling us the truth, but not maudlin.

What about the narrators’s performance did you like?

They captured the presence of each character perfectly!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I almost did!

Any additional comments?

I love the beautifully intertwined stories of the characters, realizing, as the story goes on, that each character is like an onion and their true selves are exposed in stages. A gripping story. Amazing!

I really LOVED this book!

Where does The Storyteller rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I have listened to A LOT of books, and this is one of my very favorites

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

I loved the plot. This is three stories woven into one. It is captivating, and each character is fascinating in their own psychology in the tale. It is a story of many people suffering emotionally in different ways based on events in their past. Each person has their own coping mechanism, but learns to overcome by what they learn from one another. There is love, romance, hardship, pain, and hope.

What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Although this is a story that most of us have heard before in various formats, having a voice to the survivor telling the story made it very real. It was also fascinating to be inside of the mind of the perpetrator(s) to this crime against humanity. It is so difficult to understand how someone could justify their actions in this type of circumstance. Picoult opens a window to help the listener understand that dyanmic through the voice of the narrator. It is difficult to hate the person altogether after you feel like you know and understand him better. The internal conflict felt by he main character concerning her relationship with the elderly man is completely understandable.
