Publisher's summary

Internationally acclaimed crime writer Jo Nesbø’s antihero police investigator, Harry Hole, is back: in a bone-chilling thriller that will take Hole to the brink of insanity.

Oslo in November. The first snow of the season has fallen. A boy named Jonas wakes in the night to find his mother gone. Out his window, in the cold moonlight, he sees the snowman that inexplicably appeared in the yard earlier in the day. Around its neck is his mother’s pink scarf.

Hole suspects a link between a menacing letter he’s received and the disappearance of Jonas’s mother - and of perhaps a dozen other women, all of whom went missing on the day of a first snowfall. As his investigation deepens, something else emerges: he is becoming a pawn in an increasingly terrifying game whose rules are devised - and constantly revised - by the killer.

Fiercely suspenseful, its characters brilliantly realized, its atmosphere permeated with evil, The Snowman is the electrifying work of one of the best crime writers of our time.

Excellent book with plenty of twists

This book takes place in Norway. It is well written. Just when you think you have figured it out a new twist. Very entertaining!

Disturbing

Worth the credit, disturbing and well written. It???s nice to read a thriller from another country less predictable.

Good Detective Story

I'm a fan of the British and Swedish tv series Wallander and reading the description of this book reminded me of the show and I was right it was similar. The story takes place in Norway and the only complaint I really had was the character names were Norwegian and unfamiliar (even from someone who is Minnesotan) so it was hard to keep track of who was who. The narrator's voice took a while to get use to. The story was a little predictable but then twists and turns happen and you aren't sure what you thought was going to happen will happen or not.

Loved it!

The performance by Robin Sachs was great. I listened in my car, and everyday, I couldn't wait to pick up where I left off. I can't wait to see the movie.

NOT a great paced thriller

a lot of character development, departmental politics, procedurals, etc, made for a slow paced mystery. I can't call it a thriller. I didn't even finish it. I got tired of waiting for some real action.

It was ok

First book I had read of hers, and it was ok. The overall story line was interesting, there were just large parts which were total nonsense.
