Publisher's summary

Internationally acclaimed crime writer Jo Nesbø’s antihero police investigator, Harry Hole, is back: in a bone-chilling thriller that will take Hole to the brink of insanity.

Oslo in November. The first snow of the season has fallen. A boy named Jonas wakes in the night to find his mother gone. Out his window, in the cold moonlight, he sees the snowman that inexplicably appeared in the yard earlier in the day. Around its neck is his mother’s pink scarf.

Hole suspects a link between a menacing letter he’s received and the disappearance of Jonas’s mother - and of perhaps a dozen other women, all of whom went missing on the day of a first snowfall. As his investigation deepens, something else emerges: he is becoming a pawn in an increasingly terrifying game whose rules are devised - and constantly revised - by the killer.

Fiercely suspenseful, its characters brilliantly realized, its atmosphere permeated with evil, The Snowman is the electrifying work of one of the best crime writers of our time.

Thoroughly enjoyed this listen

Would you listen to The Snowman again? Why?

Most likely not as it was a murder mystery that would just lose the same grip during another read.

What did you like best about this story?

My favorite aspect of this story was the setup that took place years prior to the events of the main story. It really set the mood for the plot.

What about Robin Sachs’s performance did you like?

I appreciated the fact that Robin did not attempt to strain voices of the opposite sex. Many times the narrator goes a little overboard attempting to perform these voices.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No extreme reactions, but it was gripping and impossible to press the stop button.

Really Enjoyed It!

The one downfall I had was remembering all the names and characters. They are foreign to me so sometimes listening, makes it hard to put all the pieces together. Great book. I would recommend!

Chills To The Bone!

Serial killer to the nth degree. The reader can see both perspectives of the victim and the murderer. Lots of great material for the movie. Kind of figured out who done it but thought I was wrong for a moment because I didn't know how it could be worked in. Over all, lots of twists and turns so worth the read. Robin Sachs did a great job but his voice was a little too mature for me to relate to the main characters. No worries Robin, I am pickier than the average when it comes to the voices.

Gritty Harry Hole does it again

Have you listened to any of Robin Sachs’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Robin Sachs does justice to the characters and brings empathy to Harry Hole's harried life.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Couldn't stop listening...engrossing

Any additional comments?

This story had so many surprises. The plot was a little hard to follow at the very beginning, there was a quick succession of characters introduced in a short time leading into the story, but it settled in nicely and the story developed with richly intertwining plot lines.

well done

Recommended by my mother, I took a chance at a different type of story by listening to this one...and I'm so glad I did. Definitely enjoyed listening to it...I would have put down had I been reading this and tried to pronounce a lot of the names and places. The reader was rough, but gave it some character. Twists and turns throughout the story kept me wanting more...couldn't wait to get in my car everyday just to listen!!!

Kept me melting with anticipation!

Love to read the book, before seeing the movie. Now I have to see the movie because I can't imagine how they will be able to capture all of this!

Great listen!

Snow-day Terror

This book gives the words, Snow-day a new meaning. Clever and suspenseful, the beguiling voice of Robin Sachs leads you through a story of horrific events as Detective Harry Hole tries to solve the murders before time runs out for those he loves. Many red herrings are evident as Harry tries to unravel the clues and find the true tracks left by the Snowman Killer. Sachs deep voice is a wonder to hear as he makes each character come alive without using artifice. I highly recommend this book and look forward to reading all of Jo Nesbo’s other books.
