From the coauthor of the number-one New York Times best seller American Sniper comes a heart-pounding military thriller in which American hero and SEAL team sniper Gil Shannon joins up with an unlikely ally in order to stop a terrorist plot bent on destruction across Europe.

Hot on the trail of The Wolf, a rogue Russian military sniper turned Chechen terrorist, Gil Shannon turns from hunter to hunted when his mission is exposed by a traitor high up in US government. Shannon must turn to an unlikely ally - a deadly Russian special operative - to help even the odds. But when they discover that The Wolf is just the tip of a global terrorist plot whose goal is to upend the US economy and the stability of the Western world, Shannon and his team of operatives must track the terrorists down before their plan comes to fruition.

Shannon comes head to head with legions of enemy fighters all across Europe in this breathtakingly cinematic and realistic military thriller, ending with a faceoff between Gil and the one sniper who may be his equal shot. Will he survive?

This third action-packed and battle-filled adventure in the Sniper Elite series takes listeners along for a white-knuckle ride across Europe in the company of American soldiers, Russian special operatives, and global leaders - and will keep you on the edge of your seat until the final scene.

Sniper against sniper! A great action thriller!

Gil Shannon is the protagonist of this action thriller series. The Sniper and the Wolf is Book 3. Book 4, not yet available for preorder at Audible (but it certainly will be), will be titled Ghost Sniper and released on July 12, 2016.

Scott McEwen coauthored Chris Kyle's autobiography American Sniper before moving to his fictional Sniper Elite series.

There is a lot of action and suspense packed into this fast moving 10 hour novel as Gil Shannon takes on the Wolf, a Chechen terrorist sniper.

I highly recommend this book and all others that Scott McEwen has coauthored.

Amazing and totally consuming

Any additional comments?

This is the third book in the sniper series with these perfectly believable characters. They are not supermen and come packed full of personal flaws, just like everyone in the real world. That makes them so much more embraceable and therefor the story so much more believable. Here, the main character, Gil Shannon, a former SEAL Sniper now contracted to the CIA, is chasing a terror mastermind and at the same time engaging a former Russian Spetsnaz sniper and his team, that have turned mercenary and work for the terrorist. Sniper vs Sniper is a rare and deadly contest in the real world, and this story demonstrates why.
The reader is absolutely perfect, offering very subtle nuanced voices to the characters, but makes no attempts and ridiculous female voices and foreign dialects. In short, he reads, and adds to the story rather than acting and detracting from it. The story itself is so well written, the timing and description so perfect, I repeatedly had to remind myself to listen to the story, but to get on with whatever I was doing while listening. Fast paced and believable action is non-stop making mental visualization a constant. The only warning is that graphic descriptions of wounds and violence may make you cringe...and make most men grab their crotch... at least once or twice.

Dell Shannon hits his stride

Any additional comments?

I am a fan of these books. I’ve been reading Reacher novels for a while now. I just discovered Barry Eisler’s fun and smart John Rain series over the last several months. And now I’ve come to the Sniper Elite novels. I don’t particularly like novels about war. I don’t have a military fetish. And while I am a liberal fellow, I find I have a surprising (American) jingoist streak, haha. Even with that, the Sniper Elite books even as entertaining as they are have been a little off putting in its naked flag waving. I don’t fault the books for that necessarily. Just not for me. HOWEVER. Sniper and the Wolf is a bit of a turning point in this series. The hoorah American attitude is firmly in place. But the novel feels like it is finally more about warriors than showing corn fed hicks with velcro flags on their arms play a freedom loving Dennis the Menace to the eternal bad men of the world. The books have always been about trade craft, political motives and consequences, individual courage, and that is why I’ve dug the books despite the almost defiant PDA towards the nation we just happened to be born in (unless you’re first generation immigrants, ha). I hope I don’t sound like I’m giving backhanded compliments. I don’t mean that. I’ve had a blast reading these books. I’m just glad this last book feels less like an initiation or like maybe I wouldn’t be welcome to read it if I weren’t American.
Having said that, I’ve always admired the willingness of this author to say who the bad guys really are in the world. Or if not bad guys, then let’s say the enemies of decency. I’m not trying to insult anyone, so I’ll keep specifics to myself since it’s not really about the book. People in America these days act like nothing that bad really happens in the world unless we’re the ones doing it. Dell Shannon is not sexy or cool these days. He’s kind of an antihero in American mainstream thinking. A lot of people in the world today only seem to want to see what they want rather than see what is. It’s nice to be able to root against the bad guys without someone jabbering about what a racist or bad person so and so is.

Fast Fast Fast

Nearly 100% action. Enjoyed the special down moments that were rich in subtle touches and humor (lunch with Putin) . Our hero Master Chief Gill Shannon is never rattled, always plugging - ok plunging ahead to fight evil. He has a very likable personality and fun quirks. The supporting characters are also well done. The action/battle scenes are well written. A thoroughly enjoyable action story.

Another good book in the series

This series continues to stay exciting with realistic characters, and multiple story lines. This series has been successful in keeping each book different from the others.

Each new book is better than the last

I feel like McEwen's fiction books are getting better with each book. I really like this character, and I really like how McEwen introduces facts and background to these stories. don't miss this one.

Non stop thrill ride. Some new great characters and a revisit from others. You should listen to them in order though.

Couldn't finish. Felt like cheap aciton.

Would you try another book from Scott McEwen and Thomas Koloniar and/or Brian Hutchison?

I read American sniper and it was good. But if this is the type of fiction i should expect them no. And i hated there narrator. He reads gun fights like the narrator of a kids show.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

It wasn't written very intimately. I enjoy books because of their detail. This was very "He shoots. He's dead. He's running". I didn't care about a single character. They all felt like extras. Minus a few introductions and notes here and there you don't get to know characters through their actions at all.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Brian Hutchison?

He was perfect for a a few peoples voices. He was literally amazing, but when he was narrating it was almost comical. I don't expect it to be super gritty and dark but i expect it to be appropriate.

Literally anyone Ive listened to would've been better.

Was The Sniper and the Wolf worth the listening time?

As far as i got. No.

Any additional comments?

I understand the high reviews, but it is just not my cup of tea. Whimsical violence and death with no feeling of depth or consequence, cardboard characters, and action with no feel. It is by no means a bad book. I like a lot of Jack Ryan and Matt Helm. This just felt a lot more shallow and a lot less detailed than i personally prefer.

I always like these books. Might be corny or predictable but always good for me.
