Publisher's Summary

From New York Times best seller Angie Fox, the second book in the new Southern Ghost Hunter mysteries.

A haunted library is no place for a girl who can see ghosts, but when Verity Long stumbles on a dead body in the middle of the main reading room, she has to believe someone...even a dead someone...must have witnessed the crime. Her ghostly sidekick, Frankie, warns her to stay out of it. The very alive, very handsome deputy sheriff Ellis Wydell inadvertently places her directly in the middle of it. And her ex-fiancé, Ellis' brother, is back with an agenda of his own. Undaunted, Verity presses forward, uncovering scandalous secrets, long-forgotten ghosts, and a shocking trail of clues that places her directly in the path of a killer.

    "Loved It!"

I'm really surprised at how much I enjoy this series. The characters and plot are well-developed and realistic. The small town atmosphere and attitudes ring true and add to the humor of the story. I also enjoy the paranormal aspect of the book. Frankie provides lots of comic relief. He's one of my favorite characters in the book. I look forward to the next book.

"Fun story, good pace, great characters"
Where does The Skeleton in the Closet rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

There are complex plots, complex characters, and just fun books. This book was fun, not deep but I am glad I listened.

What other book might you compare The Skeleton in the Closet to and why?

Juliet Blackwell, "If Walls Could Talk" they are both light mystery/ romance. Just fun diversions while you work.

Have you listened to any of Tavia Gilbert’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I seek out books by Tavia Gilbert. Tavia is why I bought this book, I was searching books that she performed.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No, it is light. A feel good book and some laughs.

    "Fresh new paranormal mystery"

I have read both of Angie Fox’s books and was delighted. Here is the run down: witty and fast pace. Dialogue realistic as can be in a paranormal mystery, well developed characters. Love Lucy the skunk. Little bit of romance possibly brewing; some interesting ghosts and a few twists and turns. No sex scenes, no cursing to speak of and no screw up by the narrator.
The narrator,Tavia Gilbert was brilliant. Her use of different voices with a little southern twang was beautifully executed. Reading was clear and pronouncing was great. If you like a fun, paranormal mystery with great narration I highly recommend both of Angie Fox’s books. Cannot wait for No. 3 in this series.

"Great development of the characters in the Series"

I am really enjoying this little series and I especially like how much romance is actually second-hand to the stories as a whole. In Skeleton in the Closet, we learn a lot more about the characters we met in Southern Spirits and get to know the town Sugarland, Tennessee a little better.

Verity Long and Gangster-Ghost Frankie are back at it again to help solve a murder but this time Verity actually stumbles upon the body and the mystery. I really enjoy the fact the author does such a good job of giving the ghost characters as much life and detail as the living characters.

The murder in this story seems simple but the story does get complex and really grabs your attention. Listening to the ways Verity and Frankie try to untrap him from her property are very amusing but you still feel sympathy for the ghost and really hope he gains his freedom.

The only down side I have to the books is that the main character is almost too good and kind to the point of being almost unbelievable.

"Sweet, Quirky and Southern Ghost Mystery!"
What did you love best about The Skeleton in the Closet?

The first thing that came to mind was the Stookie Stackhouse series by Charlene Harris. If you enjoyed Sookie's crazy tales then you'll like this series. It's similar yet different enough to keep you entertained!

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

I love her gangster ghost Frankie. He allows her see what other ghosts see, and becomes her friend and guide. Even though he's sort of stuck with her and doesn't have much of a choice but to hang with her. I like that their situation turns into a light friendship.

What does Tavia Gilbert bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

oh she's great. her voice is perfect for this character!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

no, not extreme but I am enjoying the book. it's fun and entertaining and i am plan to listen to the the remainder of the series at this point. that says something right? I've listened to 2 audios in less than 1 week.

    Any additional comments?

if you liked the sookie stackhouse series then i think you'll like this book. There is a tiny bit of romance and the set up is really good. The main character Verity and her former fiancés brother Ellis have potential. There are enough kisses and lingering moments to know it's only going to get better. Add their tension to the mix of drama: Ellis' brother, mother, his family legacy and Verity skunk pet and you have a very fun story. Enjoy!

    Story
    "Enjoyed this light-hearted tale."

This type of story is right up my street when I want to listen to something relaxing. It's an easy story to follow, with just enough going on with the mystery angle to keep you engaged.

It's also nice to have a story that doesn't degenerate into the sex scenes that so many tales seem to rely on these days. They're not needed, and it's annoying when they're not hinted at in a book summary so at least you have an idea of what to expect. With that lacking, it allows the budding romance between the two main characters to develop more naturally. That in turn has you rooting for them more.

I loved Frankie in that he was so different to the lead character. It allowed for some natural humour to seep through the story.

The only downside I had was the narrator. Compared to some she did a very good job. However there is a tendency for her to have the main character slways speaking in a tone of fear. This might be okay, expect it detracts from the moments when you want that tension. It could be that is how she was directed to talk, but whatever the reason it doesn't really work. Again in her defence, it's something that I have noticed in other audio books, which is why I wonder if that is what she was asked to do. That is the only reason why I marked this down a star.

Overall I enjoyed this enough to buy the others in the series. I'm looking forward to seeing if they can get Frankie free from his grounding, and also to see if the Mother-in-Law that wasn't gets shown up for the nasty person she actually is.

"So glad to have found this series"

The protagonist is a reluctant and accidental ghost whisperer. I became completely engrossed in the book and accepting of the supernatural realm, as Angie Fox created and weaved a very convincing afterlife around the plot. It was written in an exciting, first person, very believable style which made for a really great story. The ending does not disappoint.
Even those who don't usually read ghost stories should enjoy this book. Loved it. Can't wait to download the next one.
Tavia Gilbert does a brilliant job of the narration; after hearing her performance, I don't think anyone else could do justice to these books.
Note that I only review a book if I really like it so I rate them high because I feel it is well deserved.
