Publisher's summary

Private investigator Cormoran Strike must track down a missing writer - and a sinister killer bent on destruction - in this "wonderfully entertaining" mystery (Harlan Coben, New York Times Book Review) that inspired the acclaimed HBO Max series C.B. Strike.

When novelist Owen Quine goes missing, his wife calls in private detective Cormoran Strike. At first, Mrs. Quine just thinks her husband has gone off by himself for a few days - as he has done before - and she wants Strike to find him and bring him home. But as Strike investigates, he discovers that Quine's disappearance is no coincidence. The novelist has just completed a manuscript featuring poisonous pen-portraits of almost everyone he knows. If the novel were published, it would ruin lives - meaning that almost everyone in his life would have motives to silence him. When Quine is found brutally murdered under bizarre circumstances, Strike must race against time to understand the motivation of a ruthless killer, a killer unlike any he has encountered before...

A compulsively readable crime novel with twists at every turn, The Silkworm is the second in J. K. Rowling's highly acclaimed series featuring Cormoran Strike and his determined young assistant, Robin Ellacott.

Brilliant

This is my second book on Strike. Plot is excellent, full of suspense which keeps the listeners glued. I felt ending was bit anti-climatic and abrupt. It would have interesting to learn how Strike reached his conclusion about the killer.

Suspenseful and thought provoking

The narrator was awesome! He made the book much more interesting with his English accent. I would love to hear more books read by this author and narrator.

Great mystery, beautifully read.

Would you consider the audio edition of The Silkworm to be better than the print version?

Definitely. Robert Glenister makes the characters come alive.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes! loved it from start to finish, and then I listened to it again!

Have you listened to any of Robert Glenister’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I listened to this book twice mainly because the narration is so terrific. You will not be disappointed.

A well told mystery

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this as the characters continue developing, you get further into both Robin and Cormoran's lives and pasts, and you see new aspects of the characters.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I have to say, my favorite character has become Robin, for her complexity, her unexpected talents, and her growth.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Making silk requires death.

Wow! Just Wow!

Easily top 3 of Rawling's work. Comparing only with The Order of the Phoenix.

Complicated, implausible, too many characters and I loved it anyway

Strike and Robin are wonderful characters, thanks in large part to the reader’s brilliant performance—for sure the best among the hundreds of Audible books I’ve listened to. I could listen to them for days—which I did. This book could have been wrapped up starting around the 6-hour mark and been a better story, plotwise. And the withholding of information toward the long drawn-out conclusion is a bit annoying. The other characters were hard to keep straight—I’d remember their first names but not their last. I like the brother Al and hope we see more of him. But, as I said, I really enjoy the main characters, whatever they are doing. I hope Cormoran takes better care of himself in the next installment; I breathe a sigh of relief when ever he removes his prosthetic and gets some rest.
