Publisher's summary

Private investigator Cormoran Strike must track down a missing writer - and a sinister killer bent on destruction - in this "wonderfully entertaining" mystery (Harlan Coben, New York Times Book Review) that inspired the acclaimed HBO Max series C.B. Strike.

When novelist Owen Quine goes missing, his wife calls in private detective Cormoran Strike. At first, Mrs. Quine just thinks her husband has gone off by himself for a few days - as he has done before - and she wants Strike to find him and bring him home. But as Strike investigates, he discovers that Quine's disappearance is no coincidence. The novelist has just completed a manuscript featuring poisonous pen-portraits of almost everyone he knows. If the novel were published, it would ruin lives - meaning that almost everyone in his life would have motives to silence him. When Quine is found brutally murdered under bizarre circumstances, Strike must race against time to understand the motivation of a ruthless killer, a killer unlike any he has encountered before...

A compulsively readable crime novel with twists at every turn, The Silkworm is the second in J. K. Rowling's highly acclaimed series featuring Cormoran Strike and his determined young assistant, Robin Ellacott.

My new binge series

Absolutely loved this installment of the series. Once again on the edge of my seat, once again feeling like I understand enough but am left in the dark about enough to keep me intrigued in just the right ways. Absolutely excellent voice work, story, and series as a whole. Can’t wait to start the next one, by which I mean I won’t wait, as I already downloaded in anticipation of finishing this.

Clever, but be warned... it's a VERY slow boil

There's no doubt that Galbraith (you know who I'm talking about) is a wonderfully accomplished writer. His ability to create the beautiful awkward human moments that make these characters so real and charming are also the necessary convincing noise that obfuscates a reader's ability to solve the mystery. Strike and Robin are once again, incredibly endearing characters. But why did I take a star off? It's just too slow. 17 chapters of world building before we realize there's a crime. You may curse my low attention span, but the imminent structure of the first book created a powerful momentum that carried through to the end. Perhaps I was conditioned by the previous book, but by the time this book found its hook, my interest was sorely flagging. But in retrospect, I still enjoyed the ride. It's an incredibly clever piece of plotting and I'll be back for more of Strike and Robin. Glenister's performance is once again, captivating, grounding, subtly driven and ultimately invaluable.

Very entertaining

I read and enjoyed the first book in the series so I took a chance on the second one and was not disappointed. I liked "The Silkworm" even more than the first. I have only one complaint and that is the constant reference to the prosthetic leg and his pain. I understand that it is a part of his character, but enough is enough. We are all aware of the physical limitation is causes so just an occasional reference to it is good enough. Oh well, maybe it's just me. Anyway, I loved the book and am looking forward to number three.

Exceptional

Galbraith’s talent transcends the genre he chooses to explore. He breaths humanity, not just life, into his characters. He’s expert with the tricks of managing continuity between elements of the series and in cloaking this artifice naturally and elegantly. More to the point he’s a hell of a good story teller.

Worth the listen! A well-written mystery novel

Engaging mystery! I'm always intrigued by how the author weaves mundane relatability, with people and scenarios, into the nonfiction intensity of a thrilling murder mystery!

Well Done Who Done It

My expectations were low not having even heard of the author prior to downloading the book. That said. I very much enjoyed the character development and plot. This book was a winner.

What a twist. Perfect writing. Wow, can't wait to read more of her books. It's so different from Harry Potter, could never tell it's her unless someone had told me
