The Silent Girl

I don't usually do reviews but had to on this title. The story is fine but the reader drove me crazy. She has a frontal lisp and her "s" pronunciations took away from the story. How does someone with this pronounced speech impediment find work reading audio books?

Perhaps it should be called The Speak from the Graveyard

This is an excellent tale in spite of being somewhat
difficult to follow at times. Mostly because the reader appeared to mix some of the voice. Surprisingly, it moves along quickly and managed to keep my interest throughout the story. The weak spots were some of the cliche events. The lack caution when Jane was asked to come over to see a man that had something important and was being watched by people in a van across the street. Naturally he was dead by the time they arrived. There were other gaffes but overall it works and is an excellent read. I was surprised in the end as to learn who the original killer was. Happy listening.

Now why did it take me this long?

I have no idea why it took me forever to listen to this book on audio but I think it is because I have seen snatches of the tv show and I was not impressed.
So imagine my surprise when I found this audio to be truly entertaining and the plot to be THIS engaging.
The narrator is really good and I loved listening to her breathing life into this story.
Who knows. Maybe I should give the tv series another go.

Enjoyable

This was a good story even though there was a great deal of predictability to it. I have never read any of this series before and usually don't start with one in the middle. But based on the other reviews, maybe I am glad I did as I did not know that I was missing some good interaction that was present in previous writings.

The narration was not the worst I have heard, but certainly not the best. Do not let that stop you from listening to this one.

Awesome first experience!

Starting my trial this was my immediate choice to use my credit on as I've been gagging to get Tess Gerritsen's latest Rizzoli & Isles. I must admit to thinking I was going "make do" with the audio book until I could get the printed copy but I have been very pleasantly surprised. Not only was the story itself extremely gripping, easily one of my favourite of the series but Tanya Eby narrated it fantastically. She infused the characters with a realistic feel and it added to my eagerness to keep listening. I suspect that if I could have listened in one sitting I would have.

As with Tess Gerritsen's other stories, this is full of twists and turns that will keep you guessing right up until the end. I'm hoping that we'll be seeing some more of the some of the mysterious and gripping new characters we met.

This is a definte for any Tess Gerritsen fans or anyone else who might be looking for an addictive new author.

Unique story themes, intricate cultural twists

This is more than just a solid, well plotted police procedural.
I believe books should expose the reader to experiences outside his/her world. Gerritsen;takes us into the Chinese subculture in Boston and aspects we would never notice, including Ming warrioring, Ninjas, fine sword making, and the cultural dynamics that motivate the Asian characters. She contrasts that with modern police culture and highlights areas where the two worlds collide.
The plot moves swiftly, with depth. The book raises questions of whether suppression of some information may not be the better action.
This book wil hold your interest, suprise you, challenge your thinking and expand your understanding of the culture we think we know so well.

nothing which is the way I like it - I do not want it to distract me from the story

Yes but couldn't so I was always anxious to get back to it.

I enjoyed the way Tess Gerritsen wove the separate story elements so skillfully into one .

What did you like best about this story?

That it took women to a new level. It wasn't the usual special powers or birth gifts simply hard training and a heart felt purpose. The women at the story's center were people not just words on a page.

What about Tanya Eby’s performance did you like?

Love her voice and style. I could listen to her forever.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Honestly , I wouldn't admit it to the bros , but I listen to the book a few times . I am smiling writing about the book.

This book introduced me to a world I can say makes me rethink a lot of the stories or moments I have been moved by strong women. I can say Great work.
