Publisher's Summary

Who wants Madeline Westfield dead? And why?

Forensic Instincts' first order of business is to find out who's targeting their client. Under the leadership of Casey Woods, the investigative team has the resources to do just that, working inside the law - and outside it. FI's strength is its members, among them Casey's associate Marc Devereaux, former navy SEAL and a man who's equal to any situation.

Except maybe this one....

Madeline's case hits too close to home for Marc. She's the only woman he ever loved, and she's his only weakness. Now a nurse at Manhattan Memorial, she's terrified because someone is trying to kill her. So she turns, reluctantly, to Marc and FI for help and protection.

Meanwhile, Manhattan Memorial is in turmoil. With a merger in the works, the staff is still haunted by their hospital administrator's sudden death - during heart surgery performed by Madeline's ex-husband, Conrad. A surgery at which Madeline was present. The killer seems to blame both Madeline and Conrad....

With a growing list of suspects - including the grieving widow and a string of scorned lovers - Forensic Instincts will have to figure out who has the greatest incentive to get rid of Madeline. And FI has to work fast to save her...before she's permanently silenced.

    "Kept me guessing, more snark"

The newest team member adds some attitude and snark. Not sure the Twixie identity was necessary. Excellent performance, as always. Good mystery. I didn't guess until most of the clues were revealed.

    "A very light listen."

The Editor should have deleted most of the unnecessary descriptions. "She took her lunch tray to discard in the trash bin"?? The story was fine, but too much cliche to hold my interest. I sped the narration to help me get thru it.

"Should have listened to a sample first"

If you are looking for romance, this is for you. I wanted intrigue and mystery, got more of a chick-lit-melodrama. Still, it was worth the reduced price I paid for it on one of Audible's special deals. Interesting group of sleuths, big yawn for the damsel in distress. The mystery was somewhat predictable, but pretty good in spite of that, with a few twists. Some unnecessary red-herrings could have been cut -- like the whole trendy bar scene. The "new hire" is a promising character but was pretty much wasted; I suspect the author has plans to bring her out more in later books. The big sex scene was just stupid -- anybody who can spout that much heavily scripted syrup can't really be into it!

Apparently this is the fourth in a series, but I didn't feel like I was behind the curve on the characters.

As for the narration, it was okay. Not awful, not great. I really don't like the sugary-sweet soap-opera romance style, but this wasn't as bad as some.

    "Poor Change In Narrators"
Would you consider the audio edition of The Silence That Speaks to be better than the print version?

No, bad choice of narrator ruined it for me

How could the performance have been better?

    Use someone else

    Any additional comments?

Will not continue to purchase series if use of same narrator

    "Not bad at all!"

I was surprised at how much I liked this story since I had no previous experience with the author. Th narrator did a credible job, too. I will no doubt find other recordings by the same duo.

"I don't know why I really liked this book"

There are plot holes large enough for my mastiff to frolic in. Although much of the story involves the inner workings of a large metropolitan medical center, I wonder of the author has ever even visited a hospital. But I liked it anyway. The characters and their relationships appealed to me. The narrator was very good. Give it a shot.

"By far the best FI book in the series!"

After bing listening to the whole Forensic Instincts series over the holidays, this one is by far the best, story-wise and based on performance.

While the first two had a dull male narrator and the third had the worst female narrator I've ever listened to (that's saying a lot since I've been a platinum member for years now) Hillary Huber was a nice mix of conversational and steady.

Some critiques of the other books include how Claire's psychic abilities make the storyline unbelievable, and you don't get that with this installment. Just enough Claire. The character development is also more advanced, as if Andrea Kane's writing has matured.

    Highly recommended!

    "Boring and silly!"

Haven't been able to finish the book. Maybe it gets better but there are way too many other books to listen to that are so much better!
