Publisher's summary

In Biloxi, Mississippi, a landmark tobacco trial with hundreds of millions of dollars at stake begins routinely, then swerves mysteriously off course. The jury is behaving strangely, and at least one juror is convinced he's being watched. Soon they have to be sequestered. Then a tip from an anonymous young woman suggests she is able to predict the jurors' increasingly odd behavior. Is the jury somehow being manipulated, or even controlled? If so, by whom? And, more important, why?

John Grisham is best known for his fast-paced legal thrillers and mysteries, many of which have been adapted for television and film. Because he’s so prolific and has been writing for decades, it can be difficult to know where to begin when selecting a title from his impressive back catalog. And Grisham is definitely a jack-of-all-trades: he’s written not only legal thrillers, but nonfiction, a series for kids, some humorous novels, and recently, a new mystery series outside of the legal thriller genre. To help you decide which Grisham gem to download next, we’ve compiled a list of the very best.

Rarely does a 14 hour book keep my attention the entire time but this one did! Highly recommended.

A believable courtroom manipulation

A brilliant tale backed by logical facts woven into a believable narrative. If you ever wondered how “a fair trial” could be manipulated, this is the blueprint.

A very enjoyable & addictive listen

This was my first John Grisham novel mostly because I have not been a fan of legal dramas, but this book I thoroughly enjoyed and I have already purchased his latest book. The book starts off a little slow but this does not last long because as I got into the book I found that I hard time leaving it. He developed the characters very well to the point that I felt that I knew these people and that I was alternate juror or sitting with the attorney's as they planned the case as it progressed. The book never gets boring as there is always something going on with either the jury and some of its querky people or one side or the other of the attorney's to keep the action and intrigue going. Frank Muller did a great job of narrating as he had a great voice for this type of book and had a different voice for each character as well.

Brilliant book by a brilliant writer!!!!!

I really enjoyed this book. It really had it all. Some characters were instantly likable, whereas some were downright despicable. I adored Nicholas Easter and Marley. They are brilliant, Marley especially. I despised Rankin Fitch. He is such a ruthless and cutting villain. I was disgusted yet amazed at the lengths the tobacco companies were willing to go to. I am a smoker and began when I was 17. I am now 38. I have longed to quit and tried everything out there on the market including prescription medication several times. All attempts were unsuccessful. The tobacco companies are greedy legalized killers. The last couple chapters really open up the book. Everyone errrt

Different than movie in one big way, but great sto

If you could sum up The Runaway Jury in three words, what would they be?

Worth your time

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Somewhat. There's a lot of things going on and you wonder how they will turn out.

Have you listened to any of Frank Muller’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, but he did a good job. Read at a good pace and did a good job of changing his voice for different characters.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No, it was just a good way to pass time.

Any additional comments?

Interestingly, the defendant in the book is the tobacco industry. In the movie, it is the gun industry. Everything else is the same except for the motivation of Nick and his girl friend. I'm curious why they made the change in the movie. Maybe because there had already been a lawsuit against the tobacco companies by then?
