Publisher's summary

General MacKenzie Hawkins is a living military legend, a hero and a rogue. When he gets kicked out of the Army for conduct unbecoming to an officer, his options are limited - but not for long. He has a plan, a plan so ambitious it will shock the world and make him a very rich man: he is going to get $400 million - a dollar from every Catholic in the world. And he's going to do it by kidnapping the Pope....

Read by Scott Brick, an actor and writer who has performed on film, in television, and on radio. His stage appearances throughout the U.S. include Cyrano, Hamlet, and Macbeth. In the audio industry, Scott has won over 30 Earphone Awards, as well as the 2003 Audie Award in the Best Science Fiction category. Having recorded over 300 books to date, AudioFile magazine named Scott "one of the fastest-rising stars in the audiobook galaxy" and proclaimed him one of their Golden Voices.

Ludlum laughing at Ludlum. Sweet!

Any additional comments?

Mr. Shepherd was clearly well aware of the absurdities inherent in the formula he exploited so well in his other life as Robert Ludlum. It's obvious from the preamble, included in this edition, that he enjoyed subverting the genre as much as I have enjoyed his subversion of it.
l It is a pity that the roads to Gandolfo and Omaha were the only ones he ventured down in this spirit...but then again maybe it was better that he left us thus rather than falling into the repetitive tedium of the Bourne franchise again and again again!
I get the feeling that the narrator, Scott Brick, equally enjoyed his reading of this book. While I always find his readings clear and professional it is sometimes hard to distinguish his delivery of say "Atlas Shrugged" from the latest zombie saga. In this performance, though, he has given voice to a range of characters and displayed an evident level of preparation that is not always obvious in his other work. The only reason I haven't handed out five stars here's because I have a constitutional aversion to the idea that anything is perfect.
