Vintage Sherlock Holmes

Challenging to listen to, due to the old style English language and some racial undertones, but exactly the amazing stories they were >100 years ago. Great reader.

By far the best Sherlock Holmes audiobook

Sherlock Holmes mysteries are classic, but having them read by Derek Jacobi is by far the best way to listen to them... they are love of the few series I enjoy listening to over and over again.

Any Sherlock Holmes fan ought to listen!

I truly enjoyed/loved this … these shorts were better than I had thought they'd be. And the fact that the readers/actors were British made the stories come alive as I am sure Arthur Conan Doyle intended them to be.

Great Book, Not So Great Performance.

I have always loved any Sherlock Holmes books, but this one isn't so great. Outside of the narration of Sir John Gielgud as Sherlock, the narration was poor. Also, the music was nearly unbearable and repetitious. No comparison whatsoever to the complete Sherlock Holmes narrated by Stephen Frye! Also, I had never really noticed, until I listened to these audible renditions of Sherlock Holmes tales, just how many times Sir Arthur Conan Doyle used the word "singularly"! Listening now, I'm always anticipating when the next instance of the word will occur.

I loved the way it was read. It was great.

What did you like best about this story?

The story was classic Sherlock Holmes. Wonderful as usual.

Which scene was your favorite?

My favorite story was "The Adventure of the Golden Pince-Nez" because of it's dramatic ending.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I love this book because you can listen to it in bits and pieces not necessarily all at once.

Mr. Jacobi is a superlative storyteller and he does so without overwhelming the prose. Holmes and Watson come alive through his narration

Great performance

As title, Derek Jacobi is perfect in every Holmes’s story. He can play the whole works himself!
