Audible has changed my life! Dry , itchy eyes were destroying one of my greatest pleasures - reading. Now I am experiencing books again!
Through a lot of road trips and sleepless nights, Sherlock Holmes has been a wonderful companion to the members of my family. As interpreted by the brilliant Derek Jacobi, "The Return of Sherlock Holmes" in audio form seems fresh and new. You just can't beat this for sheer joyful escapism!
I loved the way it was read. It was great.
The story was classic Sherlock Holmes. Wonderful as usual.
My favorite story was "The Adventure of the Golden Pince-Nez" because of it's dramatic ending.
I love this book because you can listen to it in bits and pieces not necessarily all at once.
Jacobi's voice and characterizations. Plus Holmes. I love Holmes.
Oh, no one moment sticks out. I've loved these stories for decades.
Yes. They are all excellent.
"A return to form"
As with the previous editions, Derek Jacobi once again does an amazing job of bringing Sherlock Holmes to life in this collection of stories, starting after Holmes supposed death at the Reichenbach Falls. Starting with Watsons' shoving discovery that Holmes is alive, the stories move along at an even pace. Well worth the money, and perfect to while away long journeys.
You know Sherlock Holmes. You've seen adaptations on TV, you know his stories. But, listening/reading the books is just wonderful. By reading, you gain a deeper understanding of Holmes, of Watson, of Victorian England and Derek Jacobi is an amazing narrator. He is perfect for the job. So even though you may be familiar with the stories, have a listen and instead of being preoccupied with 'who done it' (cos you probably know already), enjoy the journey and allow Holmes to lead you there in his own unique way.
This narrative by Derek Jacobi adds to the delight of this excellent series of stories by the much loved Dr Watson. Highly recommended, a must for all Holmes fans.
"Delightful short stories"
Another great outing for Sherlock Holmes. Lots of great short stories from the master of deduction. Highly recommended if you want bitesize, intelligent adventures that exercise the mind. Excellently read by Derek Jacobi.
I always feel a little apprehensive whenever I click the 'add to basket' button as there is always the risk that I won't like the narrator. 10+ hours is a very long time to listen to someone who gets up your nose. I am glad to say that after listening to the Casebook of Sherlock Holmes read by Derek Jacobi I have more than happily rushed to get the rest as soon as my credits have landed in my account and I would happily hijack anyone's MP3 player and pop this on for them. Although I love the Sherlock Holmes stories they can come across a little dry and abrupt at times when reading them but listening to them gave them a whole knew lease of life for me and I don't think I'll be able to pick up the stories again without hearing Derek Jacobi's narration in my head. :)
Poor long suffering Watson! It amazes me how time after time he puts up with being left out of the whole picture by Holmes and he just accepts it as part and parcel of being with him. He just waist patiently for it all to be explained to him.
Watson. He didn't make him sound bumbling or idiotic. He made him sound like an intelligent gentleman whose best friend had genius level intelligence - so of course he was going to be a bit slower on the uptake with some things.
