Publisher's summary

First in the Minnie Markwood Mysteries: Minnie Markwood can out-sleuth Miss Marple any day of the week - in her imagination. But when a real killer begins to target Minnie and her young sidekicks, reality trumps imagination big time. Who's buying up all the red shoelaces at the mall and stalking a cashier? Is it the killer who terrorized Minnie on the highway and kidnapped her coworker? It soon becomes frighteningly clear that Minnie's onto something, and The Red Shoelace Killer's days are numbered.

Cute and cosy

This is a very light and fluffy mystery, but a fun way to spend a few hours. The smart older lady with the sweet-natured bimbo sidekick make a very enjoyable sleuthing pair. There are quite a few holes in the plotting, but it's frothy and likeable. I found the narration ponderous, but cranking the speed up to 1.25 fixed that.

An enjoyable cozy mystery!Q

Would you listen to The Red Shoelace Killer again? Why?

I would definitely read The Red Shoelace Killer again. It was a vwell structured, entertaining mystery with a few side stories to keep you enteretained.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked the cadence of the story; liked that it followed a week of living with enough details to fell as if you were in the story yourself.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

The narrator was likeable, although it took a while to get used to her deep and sometimes monotone voice. However, her voice grew on me. It fit her 50-something character. However, she also voiced a 21-year old young woman that sounded like an 8 year old.

A Delightful Mystery

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Yes. I think most people will find this story an easy listen that is quite enjoyable and totally unbelievable.

Have you listened to any of Lee Ann Howlett’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Haven't heard Howlett before but her voice is well suited to this type of story.

Any additional comments?

I received this audiobook as a promotional gift from the narrator and audible.com Thank you.

Decent Story...Could Use Better Narration

For this being a self-published book, I must say that I am impressed. It appears that this is the first book of this nature for author Susan Sundwall, and she did a pretty good job!

I always think that I want humor while reading a mystery, and if that's the kind of book you like, then you should like The Red Shoelace Killer. It was hard at times to take the book serious though due to the funny content of the book!

I didn't care for the narrator, Lee Ann Howlett, too much though! I would have taken her to be quite a bit older than what her picture appears based on the sound of her voice. Maybe it's that she doesn't typically read mystery books...I don't know, but I wasn't impressed.

I felt that Sundwall did a thorough job of creating solid characters throughout the book, it was just the story that I had my dislikes with. I am a fan of hard-core mystery books, and this just doesn't fit within that category. Yes, I do venture beyond my typical likes, I just cannot say that this is a book that I really liked!

Overall, I think that Sundwall did a good job with what appears to be one of her first major writes! I also think that practice makes perfect and that this has the potential to be a decent series, should she pursue the series in the future!

Very good!

I loved this book and how it held my attention and stayed interesting the whole time! I did not see who the killer was until the end. Loved the characters and narration was great!

Couldn't finish ... Will have to buy the book.

Any additional comments?

The narrator seemed too monotone for me. During dialogue her voice was fine, but the rest of it turned me off. But the story idea still intrigues me so I'll have to get the paperback when I can afford to.
