Given the importance of what they do and the controversies that often surround them, and the violent people they sometimes confront, it is remarkable that in the history of the USA only four active federal judges have been murdered. Judge Raymond Fawcett just became number five. His body was found in the small basement of a lakeside cabin he had built himself and frequently used on weekends. When he did not show up for a trial on Monday morning, his law clerks panicked, called the FBI, and in due course the agents found the crime scene. There was no forced entry, no struggle, just two dead bodies - Judge Fawcett and his young secretary. I did not know Judge Fawcett, but I know who killed him, and why. I am a lawyer, and I am in prison. It's a long story.

"Grisham is brilliantly comic in a novel that is full of zest and brimming with memorable characters and rich storylines." (The Sunday Times)
"Superbly plotted legal thriller." (Sunday Express)
"The best thriller writer alive" (Ken Follett, Evening Standard)
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Had it been a hardcover, I wouldn't have been able to put it down. I highly recommend it - Grisham is a great storyteller. The story is excellent, plenty of twists in the tale. The narration was very good, so overall I'm going to give this 5/5
I liked the narrator and the first half is not bad. The second half is just annoying. Most of the second half is just endless detail and the conclusion just does not work. This is one of my bottom five audio books. I really liked some of Grisham's other books, but I wish I could turn back time and skip this.
Yes. Great story as usual
The Rain Maker. First person narrative
It's a must read! Oh, is it a must listen instead?
Great Unique Plot
Grisham's "Testament" as it keeps you guessing until the end
He is one of the best. Read with enthusiasm.

"Easy reading at its best"
Some books just suck you in and take you with them and in true Grisham style, this book did just that. The plot starts with our protagonist in jail but we quickly learn that it's not where he should be and the remaining question is how will he unravel the situation and reclaim his life? To say more would be to spoil the plot but the clever twists and turns keep the book moving nicely from beginning to end. Grisham is a master of his genre.
The latest from John Grisham is a good story and has a number of unexpected twists. I read the book first and then listened to the audio. The audio narration added an extra dimension to the story and helped bring out aspects I had missed while reading. I would recommend this audiobook.
"Gripping legal thriller"
The twists and the turns of this legal thriller are amazing to say the least. It is well delivered with clear pronunciation and emphasis on the right words to give the reader a gripping book to listen to and read at the same time. John Grisham as usual delivers in his typical style another book that readers can enjoy reading or listening based on their preference.
"A bit long winded"
This book is well read but I found it a bit too meandering. If I lost total concentration (which I tend to do) I would sometimes be completely lost with what was going on and have to rewind it! After keeping going I did find the last quarter of the book did grab me but I could of done without a lot of the first three quarters.
"Grisham... not great"
This was my first Grisham novel and I'm sorry to say I have been disappointed, it will most probably be my last. This book is dull, slow and tedious, it is also padded out with out with a plethora of superfluous detail. The characters are also hard to connect with and if you don't care about the characters there is little reason for you to keep listening for 12 hours.
"Not his best"
The plot is weak and the ending predicable. I really enjoyed it until the halfway point but once I guessed the ending it was a case of going through the motions. Fans of the author maybe a little disappointed and interestingly the authors note at the end made me feel like it was a novel to fulfill part of a book deal.
Read all of his previous books and was really looking forward to this. Big let down. Daft unbelievable story. Bad all round. Can't believe I wasted money and time on it.
"An excellent story - kept me guessing til the end"
I have not read the book
Max Baldwin - a very cool guy, he played a clever game and slowly as the book came to the end it all unravelled and made me chuckle!
Was so surprised at the rambling nature of this plot - really unlike a true Grisham. Almost like it was written by someone else. I persevered to the end but do not rate it highly at all.
"Excellent story - made me want to get to the end"
I really enjoyed this book. Like one of the other reviewers, I had been avoiding John Grisham books as the last one that I read/listened to was full of too much repetitive detail and a fairly mundane plot. This book however, was completely different. I kept listening because I wanted to know what the next plot twist was going to be and unlike one of the other reviewers, I had no idea what was coming... I thought that the way the reader/listener was kept in the dark and details gradually revealed was a very clever device. Towards the end, I just waited for the next twist to be revealed and listened for as long as possible as the gaps got filled in. Very enjoyable read - would thoroughly recommend... My only complaint was the way that the narrator pronounced Antigua... (an-ti-gwa?) I've never heard it said like that before and it grated a bit, as unfortunately towards the end, that name came up on numerous occasions! But otherwise I thought that the reader was also excellent.
