Publisher's summary

Given the importance of what they do, and the controversies that often surround them, and the violent people they sometimes confront, it is remarkable that in the history of this country only four active federal judges have been murdered.

Judge Raymond Fawcett has just become number five.

Who is the Racketeer? And what does he have to do with the judge’s untimely demise? His name, for the moment, is Malcolm Bannister. Job status? Former attorney. Current residence? The Federal Prison Camp near Frostburg, Maryland.

On paper, Malcolm’s situation isn’t looking too good these days, but he’s got an ace up his sleeve. He knows who killed Judge Fawcett, and he knows why. The judge’s body was found in his remote lakeside cabin. There was no forced entry, no struggle, just two dead bodies: Judge Fawcett and his young secretary. And one large, state-of-the-art, extremely secure safe, opened and emptied.

What was in the safe? The FBI would love to know. And Malcolm Bannister would love to tell them. But everything has a price—especially information as explosive as the sequence of events that led to Judge Fawcett’s death. And the Racketeer wasn’t born yesterday....

Nothing is as it seems and everything’s fair game in this wickedly clever new novel from John Grisham, the undisputed master of the legal thriller.

John Grisham is best known for his fast-paced legal thrillers and mysteries, many of which have been adapted for television and film. Because he’s so prolific and has been writing for decades, it can be difficult to know where to begin when selecting a title from his impressive back catalog. And Grisham is definitely a jack-of-all-trades: he’s written not only legal thrillers, but nonfiction, a series for kids, some humorous novels, and recently, a new mystery series outside of the legal thriller genre. To help you decide which Grisham gem to download next, we’ve compiled a list of the very best.

Good story and good performance

I enjoyed this story a lot. I have read a few of John Grisham's books and listened to one other so am not a real devoted fan but he always tells a good story. This one is not terribly long and held my interest all the way through.

John Grisham is Genius

If you could sum up The Racketeer in three words, what would they be?

As all of Grishams novels, this one didn't dissapoint. Exciting, thrilling, satisfying.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

The plot did keep me at the edge of my seat. I always try to predict the outcome when I listen, some things I got right some I didn't, but enjoyed it non the less.

Which character – as performed by J.D. Jackson – was your favorite?

Malcolm/Max was my favorite character...for obvious reasons.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The moment in the book that moved me most, was to hear the events that happen to Malcolm/Max after his arrest, sentencing and so forth, the loss he bared was unbelievable and heart breaking.

Any additional comments?

Mr. Grisham, Hats off to you again, keep up the great work. Thanks.

First Grisham Novel and Ready for More!

What did you like best about this story?

The story was engaging and suspenseful. Loved that it kept you guessing as to what will happen next.

Any additional comments?

This was my first John Grisham novel and I absolutely loved it! The down side is I read it so fast that I'm too anxious to wait for my next credit that is due in a week. I'm ready to listen to more Grisham.

THe reason I did not give the performance 5 stars is because at the beginning the narrator was speaking a little to slow for my taste but it got better and he did a great job with the different accents.
