Publisher's summary

Given the importance of what they do, and the controversies that often surround them, and the violent people they sometimes confront, it is remarkable that in the history of this country only four active federal judges have been murdered.

Judge Raymond Fawcett has just become number five.

Who is the Racketeer? And what does he have to do with the judge’s untimely demise? His name, for the moment, is Malcolm Bannister. Job status? Former attorney. Current residence? The Federal Prison Camp near Frostburg, Maryland.

On paper, Malcolm’s situation isn’t looking too good these days, but he’s got an ace up his sleeve. He knows who killed Judge Fawcett, and he knows why. The judge’s body was found in his remote lakeside cabin. There was no forced entry, no struggle, just two dead bodies: Judge Fawcett and his young secretary. And one large, state-of-the-art, extremely secure safe, opened and emptied.

What was in the safe? The FBI would love to know. And Malcolm Bannister would love to tell them. But everything has a price—especially information as explosive as the sequence of events that led to Judge Fawcett’s death. And the Racketeer wasn’t born yesterday....

Nothing is as it seems and everything’s fair game in this wickedly clever new novel from John Grisham, the undisputed master of the legal thriller.

John Grisham is best known for his fast-paced legal thrillers and mysteries, many of which have been adapted for television and film. Because he’s so prolific and has been writing for decades, it can be difficult to know where to begin when selecting a title from his impressive back catalog. And Grisham is definitely a jack-of-all-trades: he’s written not only legal thrillers, but nonfiction, a series for kids, some humorous novels, and recently, a new mystery series outside of the legal thriller genre. To help you decide which Grisham gem to download next, we’ve compiled a list of the very best.

Great suspense novel. I don’t know how to describe it other than that.

This was a fantastic suspense novel. It had twists and turns that were unexpected. Actually, the ending turned out differently than I expected which was quite a pleasant experience for me.

Plausible

While the story is fiction, based on facts that we now know happened with Uranium one, it seem possibe that this could have happened.

Kind of had enough John Grisham, I think.

Would you try another book from John Grisham and/or J.D. Jackson?

I have read all of John Grisham's books. This one is okay - but I think I've just finally gotten a little tired of them. If you are a John Grisham fan, this is good John Grisham. I liked the narrator.

Good Book

The Racketeer was not, in my opinion, one of Grisham's best books. I guess I like his books that are based upon true events, and this one is true fiction. Because it is true fiction, some of the events in the book are not really plausable, and I found myself not really liking the protaganist.
The reader, however, did a very good job. Although his pace was a bit slow at the start, he was very adebt to performing multiple voices.

He's Back!!

John Grisham is a skilled writer, of course. But, in my opinion, it is his story telling qualities that make him shine. I can't say too much with such an elaborate story gripping your reading (or listening). This is a story, a yarn, with all the elements sliding in and the descriptive tension appropriate for a classic. Long live the story and long live John Grisham.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Racketeer?

when I didn't figure it out before

Have you listened to any of J.D. Jackson’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

HE is the BEST reader of books yet....

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Any additional comments?

the reader..JD Jackson is so much better than the reader of the Litigator...he reads far far tooo fast
