Critic reviews

"The pace is frenetic, the fear and paranoia palpable, and the characters heartbreakingly honest. Iles strikes not one false note.” (Cleveland Plain Dealer)

“Would make James Lee Burke or even Pat Conroy proud. This is storytelling at its absolute best, a tale of near-epic status.” (Providence Sunday Journal)

“A superb legal-conspiracy thriller that brings the deep South to life…an enthralling tale.” (Kirkus Reviews)

Can’t Keep Quiet!

Great story, intrigue and treachery!
Really appreciated the sexual tensions in the story didn’t detract from the storyline. They enhanced the angst, but didn’t overshadow the flow!

Great take filled with intrigue, excitement and drama

Greg Iles is an excellent storyteller and writer. Since he grew up in Natchez, Mississippi, I am sure his descriptions of the look and feel of the city and society are accurate, especially for the times. We learn so much about Penn Cage and his family and their interactions with the various groups that live and control Natchez. There is love, heartache, violence, attempts at understanding and even joy in this well told tale. It was difficult to put down because I wanted to know what would happen next . This is so good start to the whole Penn Cage saga.

New favorite author to add to my list

I loved this story! The characters were believable, the story moved along at a good pace and keeping the reader engaged. Tom was excellent at reading also. Recommend

First time Iles reader

I enjoyed the story as well as the cast of characters. My only complaint was the detailed sexual content which had nothing to do with the story. The author had a good mystery going on, solving the murder of a black man from more than 30 years before. So the sexual content did not fit into the story for me. I would like to read more IIes but not if other novels do the same thing.

Great book...lots of twists and turns!

Would you listen to The Quiet Game again? Why?

No...I'm not one to listen or read a book more than once.

What other book might you compare The Quiet Game to and why?

This is the third Greg Iles book I've read and each one of them has well-developed characters and the stories have twists and turns you don't expect. There are so many components and levels to each book and yet it all comes together at the end. I thoroughly enjoy his writing.

What does Tom Stechschulte bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Mr. Stechschute is an incredible reader. He brought the characters and their emotions to life. I never had to guess who was talking and I was totally emerced in the story. I would definitely listen to other books in which he is the reader.

Not sure I can listen to the whole thing

I want to finish because I'm enjoying the story, but I may have to give up listening and just read the book. I love the reader's voice, but the southern accents are horrible and distracting. And I need him to learn to pronounce Natchez--
