Satisfaction for Mankell/Wallander Junkies
I get a little nervous when a collection of stories/novellas comes out from a novelist...especially if protaganist is a major character in said novelist's body of work. Usually. I worry that the stories will be froth, light entertainment. No worries with Mankell, these mysteries are just that, not short stories, they add to the already multi-dimensionality that is Kurt Wallandar, they provide background and depth. A great "listen" for the Wallandar fan...I know Mankell says he's done with the series but this is one case where I welcome prequels, sequels, intermidials...whatever I can get!

The dark of Sweden
I enjoy Henning Mankell. He was a droll dry writer. His characters like Wallander are not really exciting but very real. Life is not always easy. People face obstacles and have to deal with them. Mankell lived
in a cold climate where it appears the sun doesn't shine a lot. His stories show that. Don't read if your looking for joy. Read if you enjoy a good book.

Kurt Wallenger Series
A 3 part book with character of Kurt Wallenger in 3 stages of his life. very good stories. Simply good detective stories.

Thriller — hard to put down
These stories are an excellent prologue to Wallander — this was my second time thru.
I usually like Dick Hill’s narrations — a favorite narrator — just this specific instance didn’t fit my concept of the characters.
But … as always … narration, concept & style are highly personal.
Highly recommended … and nearly required for Wallander fans.

Wallander as a young policeman
I got interested in the Wallander series of books after having seen an episode on the BBC. An interesting glimpse into the character as a young policeman. Well worth the time if you enjoy Nordic noir.

Another Kurt Wallander Mystery
Mankell has a unique way of unfolding a mystery in a similar fashion but with twists and surprises that always keeps the interest high and dangerous. I wish he conti used the Wallander series going but he said he was stopping the series several years ago.
