"[The Protector]... takes its place alongside the most innovative thrillers ever written." (Publishers Weekly)
I really liked this book. It has all the ingredients, story, plot, great ending and non stop suspense and action all the way through.
I particularly liked the writing style of conveying a great deal of interesting information woven into the narrative and dialogue.
The narrator was wonderful also.
The story was well set. The agency used to protect the wealthy and famous was entirely believable. The fact that this elite service hired only the best from the various government services was also quite believable.
I enjoyed the way the author provided background information about the actions of the principle character without boring you with unnecessary lines of trivia.
All in all an exciting story. I'm now looking for a sequel.
This was an excellent book!! It's one of those books that you can't stop listening to. It amazing how much information can be so well put together; to remain suspenseful, yet informative at the same time. I look forward to reading more of David Morrell's books!
I thought this was an excellent book. It had me so engrossed that I actually missed my exit on the highway by 2 exits one day. The action was non-stop, the detail was good without being boring. The background of the charachters was interestingly woven in to the story as was the detail of the weapons. Never did I find myself waiting for something else to happen. I did however wish the ride home was longer some days. I highly recommend this book.
Good narration, decent story. Some folks really rave about Morrell but I think he's just an average storyteller. I am, however, impressed with his knowledge of weapons and tactics. He does his homework. This audiobook has a lot of action scenes and the reader pulls them off well. Three stars. Beats FM radio anyday. :)
If you enjoyed the movie "Die-Hard" and want more of the same, this is the book for you. Other reviewers here have noted that this book would make a good movie, and they are probably right. If you are looking for a well-writen book with an intricate plot or interesting characters, however... you should just click on by.
It's evident that the author knows how to write well. If not, there would be no other way to stretch this into an eleven hour chase scene. The truth is, you could probably skip over full hours of this book and pick up just about where you left off... chasing somebody or being chased.
I cannot say that this is the worst book that I've ever listened to, but I'm not convinced that it's the book that made me listen. In fact, the narrator Stephan Rudnicki might be the only reason that I made it through the entire book. Like he's proven in his other narrations (Ender's Game, for example), he's able to walk the fine line between acting and narrating without becoming too dramatic or distracting.
This book hooked me in the first five minutes and kept me on edge for the whole book. It was action packed and thrilling. This was also a top rated book for me because the author managed a great story without any foul language. I've always been a fan of certain authors who can manage this and when I listen to a book filled with foul language I don't usually listen to another book by that author. I will definitely try another by Mr. Morrell. If you like good mysteries with suspense and new twists and turns throughout, this is a book for you.
The narrator's voice was so deep during most of the recording it make James Earl Jones voice sound like a tenor. Very poor control of the technical production of the recording. The story was average.
Morrell does it again.I'm never disappointed by Morrel's books and the reader was very good as well.
This is a page turner with an intriguing plot. Not just a continuous chase scene as one reviewer described, but a complicated plot line too. I really enjoyed it and think it was well worth the credit.
