Publisher's summary

A grisly murder. A six-year-old eyewitness. A gun from the grave.

The Profiler's Daughter is a psychologically haunting thriller that combines murder mystery, love triangle, and family intrigue in one satisfying page burner.

Sky Stone was born into the wealth and privilege of Boston's oldest Brahmin family but chooses instead to follow in the footsteps of her deceased father, legendary FBI profiler Monk Stone. In the chilly morning hours before the Boston Marathon, when a beautiful university student is found strangled and mutilated, her body left at the base of Heartbreak Hill, Sky returns from self-imposed exile to investigate. Thirty-six hours into the investigation, Sky's world turns upside down when she is fired from the Homicide team. They pin the murder on an innocent man, forcing Sky into a life-threatening game of cat and mouse with the real killer. From the stately mansions of Beacon Hill to the flat scrubland of central Texas, Sky keeps the reader on a razor's edge, culminating in a no-holds-barred shoot-out.

The Profiler's Daughter, the first in the Sky Stone Thriller series, introduces a moody, enigmatic, and brilliant female sleuth with the fierce bite of Stieg Larsson's Lisbeth Salander. As adeptly written as Martin Cruz Smith's complex Arkady Renko novels, this thriller offers an intriguing plot, richly detailed characters, and an astonishing conclusion guaranteed to leave the listener begging for more.

Thriller!!

Starts off a bit slow. But loved it! Soon you won't be able to stop listening. Can't wait for another.

Story OK...

This was an ok story, but it was a tedious listen. The pace was slow and the performance made it slower.

Good Start To A 'Hopefully' Promising Series

Well written, suspenseful story even if it is somewhat predictable. Excited to see what this series will bring, hopefully the writer will grow and the next book will have have a little more depth. Overall it's a good listen especially if you're looking for something you can enjoy without being too complicated.

The performance is undemining the story

I haven't finished the book and may not because although the narrator has a pleasant voice her "character " voices are off-putting and making me not want to listen to the rest of the story despite the fact that I might enjoy the story without these "character" voices .

Really great read, complex

Loved this book and it’s heroine! I keep checking back every year to see if PM Steffen has written the next in the series, always to be disappointed there isn’t a new one. I will keep checking though!

Needs a different Narrator!

Story has a lot of potential but the Narrator has destroyed my enjoyment of the book. The over-exaggerated dramatic portrayal of the characters leaves me disliking every character!
Disappointed. Would like to try another book by this author but would NOT listen to another book with this Narrator.

Mystery with too much romance

I found this book to be about 60% mystery and 40% romance novel. The 60% kept me interested to the end, but the 40% likely means I’ll not read the next book in the series. The protagonist has an interesting back story and has likable skills. Unfortunately, she also has an inexplicable preference for persons with classic abuser traits and an irritating lack of curiosity at the most inopportune times.

predictable

What disappointed you about The Profiler's Daughter?

the storyline was so predictable. A pet peeve of mine is when a character (usually, but not always, female) is in danger and she assumes she isn't. Really??? Are women so stupid that they can't see the danger for what it is?

What was most disappointing about P. M. Steffen’s story?

I just didn't care about the characters

What three words best describe Gabrielle de Cuir’s voice?

Fine
