"Plenty of believable action plus heavy doses of insider atmosphere add zest to Haig's fifth suspense thriller to feature army lawyer Sean Drummond." (Publishers Weekly)
The President's Assassin is one of the more enjoyable picks that I've had from Audible.
Scott Brick does his usual fine job of narration.
While there seems to be a brief reference to events of another Haig novel--which I'm looking forward to reading--this one is entirely self-contained.
Characters are nicely developed and there is adequate description, but the story is exciting, suspenseful, and moves briskly with no risk of boredom.
The irreverent wit of the principal character/story teller will likely evoke a few chuckles. Start listening when you have plenty of time because you will have trouble stopping before the denouement!
I found this book enjoyable. There were well-developed characters and a plot that held my interest. I didn't anticipate the ending which made it all the better. I'd say this is a worthwhile read.
Oh yes! I was hooked within the first 5 minutes. It starts with a murder and Sean Drummond arrives on the scene in a hush hush role with a keen eye for evidence and a sharp sarcastic sense of humor that actually had me laughing and rewinding so I could hear what was written again. The plot was excellent and I LOVED the delivery of money. With out spoiling the outcome I will say that mental image that was drawn with Drummond stripping down to his underwear and refusing to loose them was priceless.
Scott Brick performed ALL the characters perfectly.
I has a hard time putting it down.
I really wish ALL of Brian Haig's unabridged books were available on Audible. I also wish he was more prolific. This is such a good author. I've either read or listened to everything he's written, I want more. I don't want to sound goofy but he truly paints a story with his words.
The President's Asassin is a rivetting thriller that is guaranteed to keep you guessing till the end. THe novel is humorous through the cynical smart alec character of Sean Drummond with a brilliant narration by Scott Brick. If you liked The Lion's Game (Unabridged) (also narrated by Scott Brick), you are sure to love this one!
Regarding the "question for Haig readers:" If you like Nelson deMille, you'll no doubt like Haig. If there are not enough quality audible reviews for a book, I usually look through the amazon reviews to see how the book fared with print readers. In this case, very well. Several reviewers admitted this was their first encounter with Haig, yet did not regret having "started in the middle." Hope this helps.
I love espionage, legal, and detective thrillers but listen to most genres. Very frequent reviews. No plot spoilers! Please excuse my typos!
In Book 5 in the Shawn Drummond series Drummond moves temporarily from US Army lawyer to the CIA to investigate a credible threat on the life of the US president. Drummond, working with another CIA agent, seeks to track down the man who has put a $500 million bounty of the president's life. There is lots of action and suspense. Narrator Scott Brick presents that action and suspense as only he can do.
Brain Haig's story, prose, humor and sarcasm make for great listening and entertainment. I can't wait for his next book. Each of his Sean Dummond novels have been equally entertaining.
Excellent! Held my interest, lot's of reality about politics and the war - you could tell the author knew what he was talking about from experience. Also very funny! I laughed out loud several times. I highly recommened this book and the entire series.
Preposterous. I managed to get past the ridiculousness of a 35 year old SAC who also still works as a street agent. Later the same character turns out to be a psychiatrist/psychologist too. Really? Even though she joined the FBI right out of college? Right. Add to that nonsense the endless, boring dialogue and a "brilliant" protagonist who consistently states the obvious. I put in 5 hours because there were so many high reviews I hoped it would improve. I can't finish it. I don't even care how this one ends.
This was an awesome read, great characters, story, and ending. Great narration as always with Scott Brick. Please get more unabridged titles by this author!!
