Publisher's summary

Shortly after Army lawyer Sean Drummond starts working for the Office of Special Projects, a CIA cell which handles the most dangerous threats, the White House Chief of Staff is found brutally murdered. A note left by the killer promises more victims, including the President. Teaming up with a beautiful colleague to try to stop the assassin, Sean begins the investigation. The killer is stalking the campaign trail, apparently driven by a $500 million bounty on the President's head. When a dramatic hostage rescue culminates in an intense shootout, Sean realizes law enforcement's horrible miscalculation and what to do about it.

"Plenty of believable action plus heavy doses of insider atmosphere add zest to Haig's fifth suspense thriller to feature army lawyer Sean Drummond." (Publishers Weekly)

"Great Wit"

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

reviewers love this author! I liked Sean our hero and it is a shame audible does not have more of this series with S.Brick reading it. He makes the dialogue come to life and makes our hero's wit perfect.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

This had all the twist and turns to make a good mystery listen.

Have you listened to any of Scott Brick’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Perfect! I purchased this series due to reviewer "Waynes" recommendations as he goes to S.B. when he wants a good read. Yup on the money. Bricks sarcasm is a LOL moment

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

If you like the Denzel movie Two Guns, you will enjoy this listen

Any additional comments?

Audible please get more Sean Drummond series by Scott Brick reading them, WINNER

Love this character

What an excellent character. He's constantly using his smarts to outwit the opposition. The story was fast paced and enjoyable. Can't wait to hear the next one, especially if Scott Brick is the narrator.

Another winner for Brian Haig!

Sean Drummond has a deep down respect for the military, and yet his caustic wit will often cause him to criticize it as well as any other institution he can think of. Haig sprinkles a strong dose of this wit through out his novels, and it provides a sense of humor that I've grown accustom to and would miss if he left it out. To sum it up quickly, I will wind up reading everything he writes. Cheers, Ken

This is a great story, full of suspense, action and enough tongue in cheek humor to give you a breather

Fast passed action and suspense. Keeps you off balance and guessing
Love the weird humor of the male lead
Did not have a clue about the weird twist ending till the last chapter. Can not praise the narrator enough. He made me feel as though I was there with them. Throughly enjoyed it from first word to last. I have found an author to add to my "must read list"

Found a new favorite in Mr. Haig!

I always enjoy stories where I get to learn something new, and the ones keeping some literary edge to hold my interest.
Being a fan of legal thriller, the main character really got my attention being a quick witted, brilliant lawyer with fearless attitude and more then a few lol dialogues. Even thought there is no court room bowling, his character is quite convincing being an army lawyer cum first rate detective.
Not much left to say about Scott Brick...as brilliant as always.
Needless to say, I will be visiting all the places where Sean Drummond goes.

Sean Drummond Series

Sean Drummond is a lawyer - a JAG officer. Sardonic, sarcastic, and self-deprecating at times, Sean is a good guy, a patriot that has taken his oath to "preserve, protect, and defend" to heart. Each book is a complex who-done-it murder mystery in a military environment - from Baghdad to South Korea to Washington DC to Abu Ghraib, Leavenworth, and more.

Intricate plots, no objectionable language, little sex - all fade to black; Brian Haig shopped around with regard to narrators. Preference? Scott Brick or Christopher Lane - but they are all acceptable. There is a bit of violence - Sean gets himself into some scrapes, but nothing gratuitous.

Written by Brian Haig, the Sean Drummond Series consists of seven novels - Secret Sanction, Mortal Allies, The Kingmaker, Private Sector, The President's Assassin, Man in the Middle, and The Night Crew. The novels range from 12-17+ hours in length, each story has a beginning-middle-end, and you can jump in anywhere, no need to read in sequence. Released over a period of 10+ years - several publishers.

Recommended mysteries.

The President's Assassin--A Killer Read!

The President's Assassin is one of the more enjoyable picks that I've had from Audible.
Scott Brick does his usual fine job of narration.
While there seems to be a brief reference to events of another Haig novel--which I'm looking forward to reading--this one is entirely self-contained.
Characters are nicely developed and there is adequate description, but the story is exciting, suspenseful, and moves briskly with no risk of boredom.
The irreverent wit of the principal character/story teller will likely evoke a few chuckles. Start listening when you have plenty of time because you will have trouble stopping before the denouement!

Good story with an interesting final twist

What did you love best about The President's Assassin?

The storyline was pretty good, as were the characters and their development. It's helpful to introduce a new "partner" each time as we get to know them and get to know more about Drummond.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

After it looked like things had been resolved, I knew there were still several chapters and couldn't figure out why - well done twist that I certainly did not see coming.

Which character – as performed by Scott Brick – was your favorite?

Tough to say. Sean Drummond is pretty much a slightly younger John Corey as a JAG officer instead of a cop. Even more so when you hear both voiced by Scott Brick. Wonder if Brian Haig shares some royalties with Nelson Demille. He's certainly lifted some characters and situations from his books.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, I needed a break to digest and think before getting back to it.

Any additional comments?

Sean Drummond is much more vocal and less action than some other books I've been reading recently, but a good story makes it more memorable, especially this one.
