FROM THE #1 BESTSELLING AUTHOR OF THE HARRY BOSCH AND LINCOLN LAWYER SERIES

An electrifying standalone thriller that breaks all the rules!

Death is reporter Jack McEvoy's beat: his calling, his obsession. But this time, death brings McEvoy the story he never wanted to write - and the mystery he desperately needs to solve. A serial killer of unprecedented savagery and cunning is at large. His targets: homicide cops, each haunted by a murder case he couldn't crack. The killer's calling card: a quotation from the works of Edgar Allan Poe. His latest victim is McEvoy's own brother. And his last...may be McEvoy himself.

Ridiculous ending

A fine suspense credibly constructed and maintained factually and logically only to be ruined by the nonsensical ending

Tough to go back in time

The hardest part of this book was dealing with cops stopping at pay phones to call people or waiting by the hotel phone for someone to call. I know it was based on the times but still a bit painful to endure.

Good but pretty graphic

I really enjoyed the plot and the writing. Connelly weaves a really good story. More graphic than I normally would prefer but I the characters were realistic and the pacing was great.

Connelly is the bomb!

Great story. Was a little let down at the end. Why did Bakus do these horrible things. Connelly dropped the ball at the end.

Great book with no dull moments

This was my first Connelly book, but it won't be the last. I never knew what would happen next, and did not want to stop listening.

Twists & turns

Good mystery that you can’t figure out as you get more into it. The twists and turns make it very enjoyable.

My first Michael Connelly book. Won't be my last.

The Poet is a well crafted, suspenseful crime thriller. Not in the least predictable. Once I started listening to it, I was hooked. I enjoyed the narrator, his voice had a Jack Webb inflection which well suited the character. Highly recommended.
