Publisher's summary

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BEST SELLER • Once he was a well-liked, well-paid young partner in a thriving Mississippi law firm. Then Patrick Lanigan stole ninety million dollars from his own firm—and ran for his life.

They watched Danilo Silva for days before they finally grabbed him. He was living alone, a quiet life on a shady street in Brazil; a simple life in a modest home, certainly not one of luxury. Certainly no evidence of the fortune they thought he had stolen. He was much thinner and his face had been altered. He spoke a different language, and spoke it very well. But Danilo had a past with many chapters.

Four years earlier he had been Patrick Lanigan, a young partner in a prominent Biloxi law firm. He had a pretty wife, a new daughter, and a bright future. Then one cold winter night Patrick was trapped in a burning car and died a horrible death. When he was buried his casket held nothing more than his ashes.

From a short distance away, Patrick watched his own burial. Then he fled. Six weeks later, a fortune was stolen from his ex-law firm's offshore account. And Patrick fled some more. But they found him.

John Grisham is best known for his fast-paced legal thrillers and mysteries, many of which have been adapted for television and film. Because he’s so prolific and has been writing for decades, it can be difficult to know where to begin when selecting a title from his impressive back catalog. And Grisham is definitely a jack-of-all-trades: he’s written not only legal thrillers, but nonfiction, a series for kids, some humorous novels, and recently, a new mystery series outside of the legal thriller genre. To help you decide which Grisham gem to download next, we’ve compiled a list of the very best.

The Partner

Loved the plot and the twists. The partner was a shocker though it shouldn’t have been.

twists and turns

A little slow to start but well worth the wait. For me Grisham is always a good sell.

Deception

A story on the art of vanishing, mystries and murder. Lawyers who are thieves. The trust beyond any other in the name of love.

Clever and Engrossing + Frank Muller Narrator ❤️

This is typical John Grisham at his best. The story is clever, as are most of his characters. Fascinating and hard to put down.

As for the late Frank Muller, I could listen to him read a phone book, as they say. His performance keeps the book on track so well, and his shift in voice inflections is imperceptible.
Perfection.

Great story, overdone narration

I am a late discoverer of John Grisham, but I have thoroughly enjoyed the book. A very well written and constructed story, it was captivating (although at times too detailed).

However the narrator was acquired taste and I did not like his exaggerated tone when reading the book. The characters were quite good, but the narration part was annoying for my taste.

Old book, but fantastic ~ !

This is an older book but it holds up very well. It is pre-tech (still using faxes) and it adds a level of suspense. Great read and great performance by Frank Muller.

Great story. Beautiful narration. Mediocre Editing

beautiful book. excellent narration. a little disappointed at the editing as several sentences throughout the book are repeated twice.
