Publisher's summary

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BEST SELLER • Once he was a well-liked, well-paid young partner in a thriving Mississippi law firm. Then Patrick Lanigan stole ninety million dollars from his own firm—and ran for his life.

They watched Danilo Silva for days before they finally grabbed him. He was living alone, a quiet life on a shady street in Brazil; a simple life in a modest home, certainly not one of luxury. Certainly no evidence of the fortune they thought he had stolen. He was much thinner and his face had been altered. He spoke a different language, and spoke it very well. But Danilo had a past with many chapters.

Four years earlier he had been Patrick Lanigan, a young partner in a prominent Biloxi law firm. He had a pretty wife, a new daughter, and a bright future. Then one cold winter night Patrick was trapped in a burning car and died a horrible death. When he was buried his casket held nothing more than his ashes.

From a short distance away, Patrick watched his own burial. Then he fled. Six weeks later, a fortune was stolen from his ex-law firm's offshore account. And Patrick fled some more. But they found him.

And Grisham is definitely a jack-of-all-trades: he’s written not only legal thrillers, but nonfiction, a series for kids, some humorous novels, and recently, a new mystery series outside of the legal thriller genre. To help you decide which Grisham gem to download next, we’ve compiled a list of the very best.

Good story

I enjoyed the twists and turns, but I was not surprised by the ending which is why I didn't give it five stars.

Another great Grisham!

The twists and turns in true Grisham fashion were riveting. One of his best with a surprise ending. Love it

A Classic I Love To Revisit

Would you consider the audio edition of The Partner to be better than the print version?

No. I have not always loved the movies that have come from his books either, but there were a few things about this audio version that threw me. The narrator pronounced words oddly or just wrong and it distracted me from a book I know I love. He had trouble with the southern speaking, which I was surprised by. I still like the book version best.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Partner?

The ending.

Which scene was your favorite?

I don't want to spoil the book. Some of the best scenes that will have you shouting at the characters would ruin it for other.

Any additional comments?

He is able to tell an entertaining story, but Grisham’s descriptions of attorneys, their behaviors, and their egos are absolutely hilarious and true. That's a bonus to his writing.

Solid

There are several places where they play the audio on repeat but overall it’s a good listen and quite enjoyable.

As good as The Firm & Pelican Brief…Wonder why this wasn’t made into a movie?

The Master Storyteller!

I've been listening to several of Grisham's book this past year and must say, this one was riveting. I was captured immediately at the beginning of the novel and listened to the story in less than a day (thank goodness it was as weekend!). At first, I did not have much empathy for the protagonist and found him arrogant and deceitful, but as the story played out, I grew to appreciate his motives and his strategic planning in getting himself out of the mess he was in.

SPOILER ALERT (STOP READING IF YOU HAVE NOT READ THE BOOK YET)!
The only complaint I would have was the ending - which was heartbreaking. I agree with other reviewers - I wish Grisham had provided more information about why she did what she did, when throughout the entire book, she was "all in". Her sudden betrayal of him, made no sense. Why not just disappear with the money the moment the bad guys had him?? And how could she abandon her father when throughout the book she was so concerned and protective of him? Definitely needed to flesh that part of the story out.
