Publisher's summary

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • “All the Steve Berry hallmarks are here: scale, scope, sweep, history—plus breathless second-by-second suspense. I love this guy.”—Lee Child

Former Justice Department operative Cotton Malone wakes to find an intruder in his Copenhagen bookshop: an American Secret Service agent with assassins on his heels. Narrowly surviving a ferocious firefight, the two journey to the secluded estate of Malone’s friend Henrik Thorvaldsen. The wily Danish tycoon has uncovered the insidious plans of the Paris Club, a cabal of multimillionaires bent on manipulating the global economy. But Thorvaldsen also harbors a hidden agenda—a vendetta—that will force Malone to choose between friend and country, past and present. Starting in Denmark, moving to England, and ending up in the storied streets and cathedrals of Paris, Malone is forced to match wits with a terrorist for hire and to plunge into a desperate hunt for Napoleon’s legendary treasure, lost for two hundred years. It’s a breathless game of duplicity and death, all to claim a prize of untold value. But at what cost?

BONUS: This edition contains an excerpt from Steve Berry’s The Columbus Affair and a Cotton Malone dossier.

One of my best!

Steve Berry and Scott Brick is just a perfect match for audio books. This must have been one of my favourite audio books by far.

Complexity and high drama

Steve Berry seems to have cornered the market on this style of ( albeit slightly formula driven ) historical suspense novel. The twists are fun, the story researched well and Scott's narration is , as always, compelling. Well worth the time!

DISAPPOINTING

I am a hugh fan of Steve Berry and have been waiting for the release of this book as my Christmas treat. Very disappointed. The story felt contrived, the characters disconnected from previous books. Don't waste your time, money, or credits.

Very fast and fun Listen

this book was action packed from the get-go. Really enjoyed it. Downloaded another book to my kindle by Steve Berry, just so I could enjoy reading more from him.

last Berry book without all the comments

the cotton Malone books after this all have berrys comments running throughout, and no, not just in a second version, first part contains them too, and if you have to go back and forth at all, you trigger the commentary everywhere, you can't get away from them. it is very confusing....I returned one. Will not but any more audible books by berry until this is fixed. really awful situation because i need hands free reading.

Fantastic book!!!

This book is awesome. I had a lot of fun listening. I do admit the narrator was very difficult to enjoy.

The narration got better towards the end, but I do think with better narration, this book would be averaging 5 stars!!!

Love Steve Berry

After I learned to jump quickly from venue to venue with agility, I became absolutely devoted. I'm learning more about geography and history than I learned in the classroom as well as being entertained.
