Publisher's summary

New York Times best-selling author Nelson DeMille returns with another heart-pounding John Corey thriller—this time including Corey’s FBI agent wife Kate Mayfield...and their mission is to catch an elusive terrorist mastermind before he catches them.

Anti-terrorist Task Force agent John Corey and his wife, FBI agent Kate Mayfield, have been posted overseas to Sana'a, Yemen—one of the most dangerous places in the Middle East. While there, they will be working with a small team to track down one of the masterminds behind the USS Cole bombing: A high-ranking Al Qaeda operative known as The Panther. Ruthless and elusive, he's wanted for multiple terrorist acts and murders—and the US Government is determined to bring him down, no matter the cost. As latecomers to a deadly game, John and Kate don't know the rules, the players, or the score. What they do know is that there is more to their assignment than meets the eye—and that the hunters are about to become the hunted.

Filled with breathtaking plot turns and told in John Corey's inimitable voice, The Panther is a brilliant depiction of one of the most treacherous countries in the world and raises disturbing questions about whether we can ever know who our enemies—or our allies—really are.

LAST AND NOT THE BEST

BOOK 6 OF THE 6 BOOK SERIES IS VERY GOOD BUT IS THE WEAKEST OF THE SERIES. MR. DeMILLE IN AN INTERVIEW SAID THIS WOULD BE THE BEST OF THE SERIES BUT I HAVE TO STRONGLY DISAGREE.

where's the action?

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Not really! I love ND, but this book was so dull. I had to force myself to finish listening to it. There wasn't any action.

What could Nelson DeMille have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Write like you wrote when The General's Daughter was out, and the books right after that.

Which scene was your favorite?

The end...

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

No!

Any additional comments?

Maybe reading it would have been better.

Great politically incorrect read.

It took a while to like John Corey but once I did this was a great listening experience. Fast paced, plenty of twists and a great narrator made me download others in the series.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Panther?

Demille throws in so many funny one liners from Corey, I couldn't keep track. The action builds throughout and the end is great

No one else could ever be John Corey

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

DeMille always entertains, his characters are what this country needs today.

What did you like best about this story?

Even though it is fiction there is a lot of truth as to what happens in the middle east and why the USA is such a great country

All of them

I LIKED OTHER BOOKS OF HIS MORE.

Where does The Panther rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

FELT THE ENDING LEFT TOO MANY QUESTIONS. IF THE CIA HAS TRIED TO KILL THEM TWICE, WON'T THEY TRY AGAIN? CAN THEY EVER LIVE AND FEEL SAFE? HOW DID THEY GET OUT OF THE REMOTE DESERT AND BACK TO NEW YORK??

What did you like best about this story?

I LOVE JOHN COREY'S SENSE OF HUMOR. I LIKED THE HISTORY OF YEMEN AND SOMEWHAT GETTING THE IDEA OF WHAT THE REGULAR PEOPLE IN THAT COUNTRY ARE LIKE. I WILL NEVER TRAVEL TO THAT AREA, BUT I HAVE A BETTER IDEA OF WHAT IT IS LIKE.

Have you listened to any of Scott Brick’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

YES AND AS USUAL HE MAKES THE STORY VERY INTERESTING.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

IT MADE ME LAUGH A LOT. ALL OF DEMILLE'S BOOKS WITH JOHN COREY DO THAT.

A Story A Bit Long in the Making

As usual, Scott Brick delivers a great performance. As a matter of fact, had it not been for Scott, this book would have been a bit difficult to "read".

While Nelson DeMille's previous books have been very good, this story was somewhat anti-climactic. The book consisted of 95% preparation for the climax and 5% actual engagement of the enemy. This was disappointing.

You will not go wrong if you look for an interesting story but if you are looking for engagement with the adversary, this book lacks.
