Publisher's summary

A body has been found on the overlook near Mulholland Drive. The victim, identified as Dr. Stanley Kent, has two bullet holes in the back of his head, from what looks like an execution-style shooting. LAPD detective Harry Bosch is called out to investigate.

As soon as Bosch begins retracing Dr. Kent's steps, contradictions emerge. While Kent doesn't seem to have had ties to organized crime, he did have access to dangerous radioactive substances from just about every hospital in Los Angeles County. What begins as a routine homicide investigation opens up before Bosch into something much larger, more dangerous - and much more urgent.

Music

The story would have been wonderful without the music. I contributed nothing at all,in my opinion.

Timely, entertaining and beautifully crafted

What made the experience of listening to The Overlook: Harry Bosch Series, Book 13 the most enjoyable?

outstanding plot

Who was your favorite character and why?

Harry Bosch

Which scene was your favorite?

There are no substandard scenes

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, I forced myself to stretch out the listening to an hour a day.

Any additional comments?

Too short at 6 hours, I worried it was not worth a credit... but after listening it I can say it was one of the best listens in the Bosch series.

Excellent story but Jazz? not really necessary

As usual with Harry, great story, great delivery. The Jazz was good and not too intrusive but didn't add all that much to the recording. great read but a little shorter than I'm used to.

Great as Always!

What did you love best about The Overlook: Harry Bosch Series, Book 13?

It brought Bosch back with Rachael working together on a case. It's always a "push and shove" when Bosch brainstorms.

What did you like best about this story?

Bosch has a new partner and he's just having to get use to Bosch's style of investigating and thought processes.

What does Len Cariou bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He puts a visual on Harry Bosch. He creates this image and that's what you see with his voice.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

No. But throughout the book there are little tell tells that Bosch still cares for Rachael.

Any additional comments?

I've listened to this series from the 1st book and I love the main character and how he has developed through his years.

not Connelly’s best

Connelly shorted us on this one. The reader was ok, but surely not Tolliver The horrible horn is a distraction not a highlight.

The Overlook

I have read just about all of Michael Connelly's novels and this one just doesn't measure up. Harry Bosh's sarcastic character is always good for a few laughs, but the book just felt rushed. At 6 hours.... it just wasn't enough. It wasn't bad and was entertaining, but not as good as his usual books.

My only complaint

My only complaint about this audiobook is that it is too short. I wanted it to go on and on it was so good. This is Harry at his best butting heads with the Feds and bulling his way through a case like only he can.

Performance production poor

The jazz music between chapters was annoying and the over emphasized interview of the kidnapped women was terrible!

Well-paced, but formulaic

If you are familiar with Connelly's other books, then this one will be somewhat disappointing. The pace keeps you involved and interested and the story is adequate, but Connelly keeps going to the same well for his denouement. These books are supposed to be somewhat formulaic, but this one follows the recipe a little too closely. The overriding thought I got at the end of the story was that Connelly was looking for a quick score with this one. He's developing his other characters in related books and I think this one was done on the quick so the Bosch franchise didn't appear neglected.

If you are unfamiliar with the series, then I think you'll like the book.

Len Cariou is an excellent narrator.
