A body has been found on the overlook near Mulholland Drive. The victim, identified as Dr. Stanley Kent, has two bullet holes in the back of his head, from what looks like an execution-style shooting. LAPD detective Harry Bosch is called out to investigate.

As soon as Bosch begins retracing Dr. Kent's steps, contradictions emerge. While Kent doesn't seem to have had ties to organized crime, he did have access to dangerous radioactive substances from just about every hospital in Los Angeles County. What begins as a routine homicide investigation opens up before Bosch into something much larger, more dangerous - and much more urgent.

Michael Connelly's plotting and storytelling remain excellent but in this reading, protagonist Harry Bosch is more annoying than usual. Reader seemed to need to clear his throat but didn't; also inconsistent in pronunciation of the name of Harry's new partner Iggy's last name, which was distracting. Good story but probably better in print.

Disappointing rendition

This is by far the shortest book in the Bosch series so far, and it feels like a bit of a letdown given the prior books. The story isn't bad, it's just compressed, with only a few twists. Connelly has set the bar so high, the critique of this books is really him being a victim of his own success.

Very short

The music was great but got in the way of the transitions. It distracted from the storyline.

Clarinet good, but poorly timed.

I typically love Michael Connolly books but this one was not his best. I have never listened to the books and found the voice of the narrator to be a little distracting. In particular, his portrayal of female characters was annoying at points. It was still a good story. I think that I will choose to read his work in the future.

Not a fan of the narrator

I rate this as one of the best from Connelly because he has such a short time to put the story together. It immediately grabs you and takes you to the end without a break. As in other Connelly books, I have heard them all, Connelly has a warm up time like most writers have, and then they deliver. This book starts out great and reads like it till the end.
If you like Len Cariou, this won't disappoint. This is a classic for him also. Great all around book, very easy to listen to in one day.

I really enjoyed the addition of the music behind the story and used to emphasize transitions.

Really good with several "twists" that keep you guessing. But then everything that he writes is good.

Classic Connelly

Like all of the Harry Bosch audible books, the random and unnecessary music ruins the experience.
