Wow! I should have listened to the other reviews.

I love this series. Own all the books and am working my way through the audio versions. Why? Why? Why would you change the narrator after 6 books? Why would you use someone who obviously didn’t listen to any of the prior books? It’s horrible. You really should have Marguerite Gavin reread this book and get rid of this awfulness.

Great story; hated this narrator

As if having the narrator changed 6 books into the series wasn't bad enough; the continual mispronunciation of character names and the word "ley/leyline" was even more jarring than the high squeaky tones she used for voicing Jenks; but honestly the worst was the unnecessary and clearly racial tone she gives Keyslea. Marguerite Gavin never felt the need to make any of the darker skinned characters sound that way and I found it was really upsetting to hear those tones in this narration.

Changing Narrators in a Series

Would you consider the audio edition of The Outlaw Demon Wails to be better than the print version?

Yes, of course

What three words best describe Gigi Bermingham’s performance?

Different. LOL.

Any additional comments?

I think it vitally important that a narrator listen to the books published prior to their performance, especially books in a series. It is annoying to have main character names pronounced differently in the fifth book of a series...and it could have been easily avoided with some research. All in all, the performance was dynamic, but the pronunciation of names really bugged me in this book of the series.

I love the author but

Okay, I've read the books I know the story but like all the other reviews the narrator kills it. While I appreciate the effort it just falls short with the mispronunciation of words and names. Not totally irritated with jinx’s voice but messing up Ivy’s and Trent's voice is just ugh and it's Ta- ka-ta three syllables not two and don't get me started on piscsary I probably misspelled his name but you know who I mean

Jinx & Ivy have been lost

I always look forward to this series on audio, it is my go for the 13 hr trips between home & my folks which is mostly a dead area for cell or radio.
HOWEVER, in Demon Outlaw the narrator was changed & found myself wondering who were these new people as the voices were so unfamiliar. And since when does a kickass witch whine "mommmm". I had such a headache listening to the new narration & mispronouncing..... Please can we have the old characters back NOW! Story line was strong & creative, probably a better read than audio.

New narrator should have listened to previous book

Genre-specific words have inconsistent pronounciations. The names of major characters are pronounced very differently from rest of series. I try to avoid listening to this book in the series, despite the interesting plot. Like "Changes" by Jim Butcher, this book needs re-recorded with the usual series narrator. (I would buy it again for this correction.)

loved the book hated the reader

I cannot stand when I listen to five books and then the reader changes. sometimes it's not that bad...I spend half the book trying to get used to it. but this reader ...come on. did you even listen to any of the other books to get an idea of the previous reader ? your voices are not on point. you pronounce names and words differently. I didn't even know who you were talking about until thirty minutes in. very disappointed. the previous reader had more enthusiasm and was way better. you could have at least made it better

Story Killed by the Narrator!

I love Kim Harrison and her stories are truly wonderful. Her stories are worth every credit, at least they usually are. I'm sure the written book is splendid but the audio version absolutely sucks! Yes, I decided to come back and edit my first review because I recently started re-listening to Kim's stories again and this one was the next story in the series. I had high hopes that after all these years the audio may have been removed even though I paid for it but no such luck. The second time around was even worse for me. I don't want to miss out so I never skip a book in a series but the narrator is so horrific you have to skip it, at least I did.

I would think a writer, a very popular, well known writer like Kim Harrison would remove this version and replace it with a better narrator. I actually paid for my audiobook and didn't use a credit. I feel like I was cheated out of my money because it surely wasn't what I paid for. I would love to replace it with another Outlaw Demon Wails but another doesn't exist. I'm stuck with this one until a replacement has been made. Will that ever happen? I feel like the publisher and the author has neglected audio fans by not replacing it. I'm sure it's been long enough to have it replaced even if you there was a contract. If you can't remove it then just add another version and let your audio fans pick the one they want to listen to.

I've listened to many audios over the years and this narration by Gigi Bermingham is the WORST, most HORRIFIC narration that I've ever had to listen to. Please go back and have Marguerite Gavin redo it because other authors do this all the time. Please Kim, get this audio redone. I love relistening to all your stories but once I get to this one, it ruins it for me. I beg of you for all the listeners who love your stories to please redo this one. She kills the entire story and I really don't want to give her a star but audible is making me.

Gigi Bermingham you ruined this story for me! I can't listen to it all all and you should refund Kim's publishers money back. I don't know but if you're lucky then your voice skills have improved over the years but I'm doubting it. I'm sorry for being so mean but I'm not sorry for speaking my mind honestly.

It was pretty good

I didn't like her squeaky voice of Jinx. It was like nails on chalkboard. she would also get very loud and quiet... I miss the other lady. I liked the story line tho.
