Good book, bad narration

If you liked the narration on the first few books, you will absolutely HATE this one. I can't stand when they change the narrator halfway through a series. The narrator for the first few books actually sounded mostly like what I imagined they sounded like when I read the series a couple years ago. Aside from the pronunciation of a few things that is.
THIS one seems as if either she didn't bother to read the description of what the characters were supposed to sound like (ivy is supposed to be deep and sensual for instance while Quinn is supposed to be a gravely husky type), or else she deliberately is doing exactly the opposite of every single voice the first narrator did. I really did try to be objective and listen to it as if it was the first book in the series and I had never heard the first narrator. But I have to say, if this had been the first one I had listened to, I would never have listened to another one. she does not separate voices on each other so you're not sure who is saying what. And her pronunciation of some words just grates on the nerves. I don't know this narrator from anything else, but she sounds like she might be good reading velveteen rabbit or dr. Seuss or something to children.
Do yourself a favor, read this book. Don't waste your money listening to it.

Really misses Ms Gavin

The consistency of the previous and subsequent stories really show how uninspiring this reader is. Mispronunciations, odd accents and such really bring down the performance and I am looking forward to getting back to Ms Gavin as the reader.

Inconsistent pronunciations

Not very good at changing voices of characters. Great writing but the other narrator was way better.

New narrator for an established story

The narrator did not bother to listen to the other stories and how things were pronounced or portrayed. The effect was off putting and annoying.

Do what?

Love The Hollows series. Who let this narrator change the pronunciation of so many names? I don't blame her but the person that approved the final version. I am surprised she didn't annunciate Rachel and Ivy differently. Last, Jenks does not nor will he ever really sound like that.
As always the book was great. My second time doing the series!! It only gets better!!

Ugh narration

It’s very disconcerting and distracting to the story to have a new narrator several books in pronouncing names completely differently than what you have grown accustomed to. I love the series, but a little less angst would be good. We get it, relationships are tricky.

New narrator—very distracting.

This story is excellently written and it’s unfortunate that the new narrator doesn’t have the talent that the previous narrator had.
I loved seeing Trent and Rachel begin to work together. One of the very loose ends is how Rachel “saves” Trent’s head of security. That was just confusing to me.
Keep up the great work, Kim. I’m very glad to have found this series and have been enjoying it immensely!

extremely hard to listen to

the story was amazing but the narrator Miss pronunciated so many words that I was continuously cringing Ley lines and she's calling them Lee lines, piscary and she's saying pissery, Takata and so on and so on and so on. Into the first chapter and I wanted to ask for my money back. they need to redo this audio with the original lady who narrates the rest of the books

Love the Series but not new narrator

Love the story and progression of events throughout the first 5 books and how you can now see some inner-looping the of the story line from brief snip-its in earlier books. BUT it really didn't go over well when a new narrator came from out of nowhere! I struggled to keep up with the story because I felt as though she was not pronouncing the names of the characters correctly. I mean, I have listened to Marguerite Gavin pronounce names and places for 5 audio books now and really like her and the voices she does for all the characters, but suddenly there was a new person. I felt as though Gigi Bermingham was pronouncing so many things differently. While I am sure she is a great narrator overall and can land her own series, you just don't switch out the main character in the middle of a series. Glad Marguerite Gavin is back!!

Love The Hollows

Can't help but agree with the majority. Please don't use Ms Bermingham again!! The story is one of the better of the Hollows series but I am cringing through the reading at the voices the don't fit, the pronunciations that don't work and the distracting "musical" transitions. Argh!! Ms Gavin may mispronounce Mackinac but she is otherwise excellent!
