New Narrator

This series has been great but the new narrator was horrible. Her voice for Rachel made her seem like an old woman and she should have listened to the prior audiobooks to make the pronunciation consistent. It made it very hard to get lost in the story.

Narration nearly ruins story

It’s always awful when an author changes narrators several books in to a series, but this is the worst I’ve ever heard. The narrator isn’t that bad, although she lacks the range to clearly differentiate which character is speaking. If she had done all of the books It probably wouldn’t be an issue. But she didn’t, and the way she does the voices is super annoying. The worst part is the pronunciation on a few key, heavily used, words. “Ley line” is supposed to be spoken like “LAY” line, she says “LEE” line.... over and over again. The musician “ Takata” is pronounced “tuh-KAh-yuh” in the all of the other books. She sounds like she’s describing the sound a machine gun makes. The master vamp “Piscary” is pronounced “Pis-CARE-y” all along and she says “PISS-Cary”. Again and again. And the elven title if respect she says as “SAY-HAN”?!? It’s very distracting. Annoying enough that I stopped listening to a story I enjoy very much to rant about it here. Seriously, if you’re a narrator taking over a series after several books LISTEN TO A PREVIOUS BOOK TO LEARN HOW THE NARRATOR SAID WORDS THAT ARE REPEATEDLY SPOKEN!!!! And if you’re the author, maybe give it a quality check or hire an editor to get some continuity. And the cheesy music between chapters makes me embarrassed to be listening. Having gotten that out, I enjoy this series very much and can’t wait to get back to the old narrator in the next one.

If only a different narrator

The entire series, including the newest book which is a prequel is recorded by a different, in my opinion, much better narrator. It's the word pronunciations that bothered me the most. Marguerite Gavin simply has a better grasp of the series content, characters/voices, & words in general. Mainly I wish this one book narrated by Gigi could be re-recorded.

I love this series and have been filling out my audio versions of the books. I know some people have a difficult time getting into the series. Others are equal super fans. Liking it is not universal, but the universe that Kim Harrison builds is spectacularly detailed and character rich. By this point in the series, the world of Rachel Morgan is very well established. If you haven't read the earlier books, don't start here. Otherwise, enjoy another wild ride as you become more entwined in the Inderland culture.

This Narrator is terrible and ruins this book

Ok, I’m a huge fan of the story so far. If you are too then DO NOT listen to this book. Gigi Bermingham is garbage in her performance. She chooses not to build on the previous book’s world and instead destroy pronounciations, add or change letters in words, not give clear voicing, and really make any mistake you can think of. It felt like being an English Major sitting in a fourth grade class reading Shakespeare.

Thankfully there is light at the end of the tunnel! The next book goes back to the previous narrator!

Again, don’t waste your time on this terrible audio experience, but come back for book 7.

They really need to re-record it. Such a shame.

Decent story, narration... meh

On a personal note, I dislike when narrators change mid-series. Doubly so when the narrator fails to learn how to pronounce key words in the story and changes the voice style used for some characters (e.g. from gruff to semi-surfer).

Specifically, ley should be pronounced as lay, no lee. There are others, but that is the most commonly used in the story.

As a narrator, Gigi does fairly well, but the story suffers from what feels like a lack of apparent homework to ensure continuity in narration style and pronunciation, which detracts from the listening experience.

ugghhh!!!

seriously this narrator is just horrid! everything that 5 books setup, she tore down in less than a chapter!! She seems to have done no redearch into this series and changed the voices of the characters, their temperments and for gods sake the cadence used by AL when talking to Rachel. ohh btw Ley Lines are pronounced LAY not LEE snd it's a Beta ( Bay Ta not Bet Ta) and the G in Als name is pronounced like a J.

O thought it would improve but by the end of the book I hated Jenks 100x more because of his voice.

as for story yet again waaaay to much repeating. by this point we get that Rachel loves pushing Trents buttons, we know the relation between her and Ivy . a descriptive reminder every other chapter is a not needed at all. We know how Ivy smiles with that little glint of teeth

Fantastic story - terrible reading

It's a crime that an amazing storyline was read so terribly. I cringed EVERY time she mispronounced so many names and occasionally common words. I'm not upset at a different reader, but that thre reader showed this was just another job, not even caring to get names right. My head hurt everytime she read for Jenks and don't even get me started on how an old black man who was a former runner in OHIO sounded like a slow southern man.
I'm more than disappointed in this performance.
I wish Audible had another option for this amazing story.
