Publisher's Summary

Private investigator Jim Knighthorse (from Dark Horse) takes on a very, very cold case. When historian Willie Clarke dies of mysteriously of dehydration in the California deserts, ex-football hero Jim Knighthorse is hired to dig a little deeper - and discovers a shocking connection to one of the West's oldest mysteries.

Over a hundred years ago, an unnamed cowboy was murdered in the California desert and, due to freak weather conditions, would become mummified within 24 hours. Now known to the world as Sylvester the Mummy and displayed in a creepy curiosity shop, Sylvester and historian Willie Clarke will be forever linked in mystery. That is, unless private investigator Jim Knighthorse can survive long enough to untangle one of the West's greatest unsolved murders.

"Very different from the first book"

This book feels like a complete 180 from the first book in the series. Even though it feels different the characters remain the same and still fit with the universe created in the first book.

The storyline content is not as dark as the first book and it seems to have a little lighter feel to the last book and moves at a much faster pace. The book does have several sub-plots which can be a little distracting from the overall case but the book in general is great addition to the series.

One of my favorite parts of the book is the carry over storylines from the first book which help keep you entrenched in the Knighthorse world while the new case is so different and unique. The book also sets up some future storylines and has some great twists in it. Overall a great book.

    "Fun mysteries"

Might have gotten a higher score but his ego gets a little irritating after a while, but I'd give it a 3.5 if I could. There were several plot lines in this book - who killed the kid who was investigating who the mummy was, who killed the mummy, who was stalking Knighthorse's girlfriend and who killed Knighthorse's mother. A lot to pack into a 4 1/2 hour listen with some romance tossed in, plus a kid's revenge against some bullies. It was very entertaining and it will be interesting to see what he does next in relation to his mother's killer.

    "Nice multiple who-done-it!"
What did you love best about The Mummy Case?

I liked that there was more than one event that the main character was investigating, just making things more interesting, in general

Who was your favorite character and why?

    Jim Knighthorse, of course.

Have you listened to any of Jason Starr’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Not sure but don't think so.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It was a very entertaining, yet short and concise audiobook, which was good for commuting. This book could stand alone, even though this is # 2 in a series, but it still left you wondering what would happen next. Guess I'll have to buy the next one, too.
