Publisher's summary

The indomitable Amelia Peabody and her husband, known to many as "the Father of Curses", are into archaeology and mischief again. This third in the series brings the reader once more into Egypt and the shady world of black market antiquities. The winter excavation season has hardly yet begun when Amelia stumbles onto what looks suspiciously like a ring of thieves.

Amelia's not the type to take no for an answer, and pretty soon the Emerson family (Master Ramses, a prodigious young intellect is joining his parents for the first time) is tracking down a character known only as The Master Criminal. Or is the Master Criminal tracking them?

Great fun!

I love audio books, but I REALLY love them when a talented author and a talented reader unite. This is the case with the Amelia Peabody Series by Elizabeth Peters while being read by Susan O’Malley. O’Malley does a wonderful job in capturing the humor and excitement of each adventure. For those who are not familiar with this series, what a treat you are in store for! This is a rollicking adventure taking place in between England and Egypt during the Victorian era. This book is one that I play while driving my 13 year old daughter to school. We both love Amelia (a heroine who knows how to yield an umbrella), Emerson (her gruff but devoted husband) and of course Ramses (their precocious little boy). I highly recommend this audio listen. It is great fun!

One of the slower installments, has its moments

I got a bit confused during this one, perhaps because I found it a little too easy to tune it out. I also found the villains a tad boring and annoying. That said, it has some highlights, which for me include the lion, the Black Pyramid, and the head of the department of antiquities (not to mention Amelia's shining moment of maternalism). The slower parts are made bearable by the always incomparable narration of Barbara Rosenblat.

I wish Amelia were real.

The narrator is sublime! She brings to life the Peabody/Emerson family. I sometimes forget they are fiction.

The portrayal of the different characters was excellent. It brought the story to life.

An excellent listen! The narrator does a superb job. The perfect way to enjoy the book.

"What is a mummy case"?

Wish there were more Amelia Peabody stories with Ramses as a young child. The Mummy Case is one of my favorites. Ramses is hilarious as Amelia is exasperated. Barbara Rosenblat is the best!

Ramses on the Case!

Prepare to laugh out loud! This is the first real instance where Amelia, Emerson, and their extremely precocious son Ramses work together in Egypt. Unrealistic, sure, but the child is irresistible, especially in the company of his mother.
A not-to-be-missed part of the series. Just make sure you get the Barbara Rosenblat narration!

Another wonderful story

I can't get enough of Amelia, Emerson and Ramses as they yet again face unknown adversaries.

Never fails to interest me

I have read this series at least 5 time. The characters are old friends whom I seek out when the world is too dark or chaotic to deal or when it seems I have read ALL the hood books and there are none left.
The three main characters are filled with faults and yet very loveable. Sometimes Amelia seems very cold and critical to me but deep down she is very generous.
Sometimes I wish I was as plain spoken as she.
Barbara Rosenblatt does a great job of narrating. I can’t abide for the narrator to be anyone else.
