The Monster of Florence: Marshal Guarnaccia, Book 10 | [Magdalen Nabb]

The Monster of Florence: Marshal Guarnaccia, Book 10

Marshal Guarnaccia's job with the carabinieri - the local Florentine police - usually involves restoring stolen handbags to grateful old ladies and lost cameras to bewildered tourists. So when he is assigned to work with the police to try to track down a vicious serial killer, he feels out of his league. To make matters worse, the prosecutor he must report to is Simonetti, the same man he knows drove an innocent man to suicide several years earlier in his blind quest for a conviction. The marshal can't let the stress of the case get to him if he wants to make sure justice is upheld.

    Story
    "Smart and Satisfying"

A complex plot with a secondary line woven through it, an excellent writer, a thoroughly sympathetic detective, and Florence--it's hard to ask for more. The narrator captured the detective's character which more than made up for a few stumbles in Italian pronunciation and his voice was rich without sounding affected. Although I've read all of Magdalen Nabb's books, I savored this story as if I'd never heard it before--yes, that good. I'll go look for more in Audible.
