Alongside day-to-day matters - such as Mma Makutsi's dowry negotiations - there are more difficult problems for Mma Ramotswe to solve. A client, who was adopted, asks her to trace her biological family. But will Mma Ramotswe's searches bring happiness or something rather different, something rather frightening?

"A paean to a much-loved Africa...it's hard to find fault with such good-natured and pleasurable optimism." (Guardian)
"Wonderful to listen to"
Adjoa Andoh's reading of this novel is masterful...warm, interesting and with a wonderfully authentic Botswana accent, brilliantly different for each character. I wish she had read all the No. 1 Ladies Detective novels - I would purchase them all immediately.
If you would like to hear a melodious, amusing and just plain fantastically read book, then look no further.
"AMcS does it again"
Another sweet and amusing addition to the series. Good to see the characters developing. These are great for the car, as not much concentration is required. The world of Mma Ramotswe and co leaves the grimy commute far away as you waft to work on a cloud of happiness.
