Publisher's Summary

Gabriel Allon, art restorer and spy, is about to face the greatest challenge of his life.

Allon is recovering from his grueling showdown with a Palestinian master terrorist, when terrorism comes to find him once again. An al-Qaeda suspect is killed in London, and photographs are found on his computer - photographs that lead Israeli intelligence to suspect that al-Qaeda is planning one of its most audacious attacks ever, straight at the heart of the Vatican.

Allon warns his old friend, Monsignor Luigi Donati, the pope's private secretary, and rushes to Rome to assist in security. But what neither he nor Donati knows is that the Vatican has been thoroughly penetrated. An extraordinary enemy walks among them...and he's just getting started.

In the days and weeks to come, Allon and his colleagues will find themselves in a deadly duel of wits against one of the most dangerous men in the world - and a hunt that will take them across Europe to the Caribbean and back.

But for them, there may simply not be enough of anything: enough time, enough facts, enough luck. All Allon can do is set his trap - and hope that he is not the one caught in it.

Take another thrill ride with Gabriel Allon.

    "Well worth the time"

I confess that I am a real fan of Daniel Silva and his main character Gabriel Allon and his mentor Ari Sharon. I have read several in the series and think this one is the best yet. While I thought the Messenger started a little slowly, Silva made up for it soon and the plot thickened quickly. The characters blended together into a real mosiac of excitement and suspense. The plot turns came fast and furious and I hated to put it down. You can't go wrong with The Messenger.

    "Great Listen"

The entire experience with this audio book was great. The novel itself is great, with good plot, action and emotion. The reading was superb. The reader was able to bring the novel to life. Absolutely a professional presentation.

    "The Messenger"

I have read through all of Daniel Silva's books. Love Gabrial. The Messenger is the best one of the lot, I think. I listened to it twice!

"If you loved The Little Drummer Girl"

I enjoyed this book, but felt it borrowed too heavily from John Le Carre's The Little Drummer Girl in tone, plot and style.

    "terrific"

good from cover to cover. Fiction kept me spellboound while honestly writing about our good "friends" the Saudis. Only knock would be slightly annoying voices of some of the women characters.

    "Just okay."

I got this book based on the other reviews and I must say I don't get it. It was decent, but not at all up to par with other authors in the same genre nor as good as I expected based on the other reviews. At one point I almost stopped listening.

Part of the blame goes to the narrator for sure, but in general the story was just not that interesting and not told very well. There was this big buildup in the plot that fizzled out at the end. Then in the last 30 minutes, what was supposedly such a complex mission to pull of in the first place, got wrapped up like it was no big deal.

At times I had a hard time following what was going on and even when I went back to listen again the assumptions that were made did not make sense. A lot of lose ends.

To the folks who like this book I say try some Vince Flynn.

    "Wonderful story, subpar narrator"
If you could sum up The Messenger in three words, what would they be?

    Another great story.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

As always with Daniel Silva's books, the characters are complicated, troubled souls, doing the best they can in a confusing and violent world. And yet, at times their darker sides get the best of them. As in life, sometimes there are no simple answers.

How could the performance have been better?

The auditor sounded like a newscaster with breaking headlines or a preacher at the pulpit. The story needs to be told with much more subtlety.

    "I loved this book!"

Another hit for Silva! The narrator was pretty good this time. He made Gabriell sound older than his age and the ending was a bit rushed but none the less I found it more enjoyable than listening to my favorite talk radio heads or late night Leno. I had to download the next book Secret Servant. I know you will love listening to this book and it will leave you thrusting to download the next book. I am hooked!
