Publisher's summary

Gideon Crew, brilliant scientist, master thief, is living on borrowed time. When his mysterious employer, Eli Glinn, gives him an eyebrow-raising mission, he has no reason to refuse. Gideon's task: steal a page from the priceless Book of Kells, now on display in New York City and protected by unbreakable security.

Accomplishing the impossible, Gideon steals the parchment - only to learn that hidden beneath the gorgeously illuminated image is a treasure map dating back to the time of the ancient Greeks. As they ponder the strange map, they realize that the treasure it leads to is no ordinary fortune. It is something far more precious: an amazing discovery that could perhaps even save Gideon's life.

Together with his new partner, Amy, Gideon follows a trail of cryptic clues to an unknown island in a remote corner of the Caribbean Sea. There, off the hostile and desolate Mosquito Coast, the pair realize the extraordinary treasure they are hunting conceals an even greater shock - a revelation so profound that it may benefit the entire human race - if Gideon and Amy can survive.

Fantasy Adventure Wild Ride

I am big fan of both authors and have read many of their books, both individually and together. I am halfway through the Pendergast series and decided to take a break. This book was added to Kindle Unlimited and I decided to read and listen. Kind of unusual to start so late in the series, but the premise intrigued me. Having read "The Ice Limit" which I loved, I was delighted to learn that Eli Glinn was in this series.

After being introduced to Gideon, I enjoyed the heist of the page out of the book. I was also dismayed by what happened next. I thought it interesting that ESS sent only Gideon and Amy to look for the special island. Normally there is a much larger expedition. This book was more like an adventure series, modern day Indiana Jones with action. Gideon and Amy suffer through an array of amazing situations. I won't spoil the story, but I just enjoyed the story and went with it. Amy, I wasn't wild about and I didn't learn much about Gideon in this book, but it was fantastic to learn of the after effects of "The Ice Limit" from Manual Garza and Glinn's thoughts. A fantasy adventure book, but still with the great research they are known for, Lost Island is a wild ride. Narration from David Collins fits the character. Now I will have to read the first book to fully learn Gideon's back story.

Wild trip. Hang on.

Just when you think everything is going to be ok, it isn’t…. The authors lead us on an unimaginable adventure. Great narration also. Thank you Preston/Child!!

Not necessarily ripped off just cheated

What did you like best about The Lost Island? What did you like least?

An amazing conglomeration of science and myth. The hijacking of the story by Amico. I listen to these for Gideon, but Amico took over the story and by default Gideon was put in the back seat. made to take action or rather inaction that I dont feel his character wouldve normally been okay with.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The mythological tie in was amazing. I'd go further into detail but I don't want to give spoilers. Amico was a whiny distraction. I bet she gets her own book.

What does David W. Collins bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

His voice takes you there. Bringing the Characters to life.

Could you see The Lost Island being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

Amico: Lucy Lui, Gideon Tom Mison Garza: Silas weir Mitchell Glen: Christopher Heyerdahl

Any additional comments?

I still believe in the writers and the story line a good listen but not their best

Cyclops the reluctant hero... loved this book!

Would you listen to The Lost Island again? Why?

I will listen again. It was an original premise and made believable by the scientific data. Yeah that "could" happen. I love a book that combines both science and what if!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I was able to listen to this book during a few weekend trips to my Mom's house up north. Made the drive quick and painless.

Great read with a few exceptions

Enjoyed the plot and overall story, but a few parts were a little laborious for my ADHD personality. While I'm usually able to listen to mysteries and thrillers in a marathon session, I had to stop and come back to this one a few times when the story started to lose my attention.

A Good Read

I like the book. The characters are interesting. There are many surprises throughout the book. It isn't as good as some of their other books they have written.

after reading the first two I of course wanted to

after reading the first two, I off course wanted to read this one. while I enjoyed the book itself, I was disappointed in the overall premis. without giving a spoiler, let's just say the first two books seem quite possible while this one not so much. It's like they switched genres when writing this book.

Meh

It was ok, the beginning and middle were strong but the end was weak. Good for quick beach read I guess.
