Publisher's summary

In a daring and chilling debut, Brad Thor draws us into a sinister labyrinth of political intrigue and international terrorism, serving up an explosive cocktail of unrelenting action as one man is pushed to the edge.

On the snow-covered slopes of Utah, the unthinkable has just become a nightmarish reality: 30 Secret Service agents have been viciously executed and the vacationing president of the United States kidnapped by one of the most lethal terrorist organizations in the Middle East - the Fatah Revolutionary Council.

But surviving agent and ex-Navy SEAL Scot Harvath doesn't believe the Fatah Revolutionary Council is responsible for the attack. Driven by his professional code of duty and honor, Harvath creates his own rules to get some answers. But his search for the truth raises the blood pressure of his superiors...and casts his own life in mortal jeopardy. The deadly machinations have been set in motion by a shadowy coalition, comprising some of the highest-ranking officials in government and business - men who operate above the law, men who realize the threat Harvath poses to their hidden agenda...men who will do anything to stop him.

Framed for murder and on the run, Harvath takes his own brand of justice to the towering mountains of Switzerland where he finds an improbable ally in the beautiful Claudia Mueller of the Swiss Federal Attorney's Office. Together they must brave the subzero temperatures and sheer heights of treacherous Mount Pilatus - and enter the den of the most notorious team of professional killers the world has ever known.

Tough guy

I've always liked Horvath when I listened quite a few years ago. I'm 77 and I'm on my second go around. It's like I never heard it. I only remember part's.

Good spy/black ops/intrigue

This was the first book I read by this author and I enjoyed it! It was a bit too long for me and all of the gun descriptions got a bit old as I don’t care about them. Great chase scenes, good villains and a good (if a little predictable) story.

A new series to read.

After finishing the complete Mitch Rapp series, I was wondering what I was going to read next. I guess I found a new personnally to follow in Scot Harvath. It took awhile to get used to a new reader , but the book ended up being very good.

Pretty good for Book 1

Any additional comments?

In looking for another good detective/spy thriller series after listening to every Mitch Rapp, Dave Robicheaux, John Corey, and Harry Bosch novel ever recorded, I stumbled upon Scot Harvath series and decided to start at the beginning with Book 1.

With the expectations that very few could match the story line, characters and writing of the above mentioned characters and their creators in my opinion, I completed The Lions of Lucerne with an open mind. Conclusion is that it was a good start to what I am hoping will be a more developed character.

Not a great book, but an enjoyable listen and enough intrigue to make me wanted to find out what happens next. When the characters were in the snow storm, avalanche or mountain climbing icy cliffs, Thor had me feeling like I was right there as an observer to were I even felt a chill. That alone prompted me to go on to the next Scot Harvath adventure, State of the Union.

Great story and read by the perfect man. I enjoyed the various voices as the story progressed. A great introduction to the Harvath character. I can't wait to listen to others.

It was okay.

Although I enjoyed the plot, there was little suspense in this story. Characters took turns saving each other from certain death as they closed in on the bad guy. Narrator spoke very clearly and did a nice job with accents but could have used some more grit. Agent Harvath just seem too nice.

I’ll try the next book, but there are better series out there.

Bearable at best.

Story was okay. Several gaps in the story line AMD a great deal of over explaining. Performer got lost a few times using the wrong accent for specific characters. All and all is was "OK."
