Publisher's summary

To survive in a game with no rules at all, John Corey must invent a strategy that includes no luck at all. The hero of DeMille's No. 1 New York Times best seller, Plum Island, Corey has been through a lot, not the least of which was surviving three bullet wounds while serving on the NYPD. Now he signs on with the government's Anti-Terrorist Task Force in an attempt to stop an alleged Libyan terrorist known simply as "The Lion".

The Lion has the instincts of a wild animal, the bloodlust of a carnivore, and the boldness and speed of a cat of prey. And now he's loose in America. Can John Corey stop him? Or has his allotment of luck just run out? Nelson DeMille spins an epic tale of heart-pounding suspense.

Scott Brick is FANTASTIC!!!

Other than the Alex Cross series I have not read any other suspense/thrillers with a man as the leading character. Scott Brick's narration was superb!!! This was a great book which grabbed you from the first. The author's humor throughout the story was great! Loved the book!!!

Distracting mouth sounds and breathing

Don't listen to this one with headphones, you'll get nauseous from all the wet mouth sounds, shaky breathing, and swallowing. The audio recording and production quality of Plum Island was much better.

Just listented to it for a second time

Any additional comments?

I listened to this book years ago, but recently started going back and listening to my Nelson Demille audiobooks again. I have never done that before, and I have to say, I found it just as enjoyable the second time around. When you follow and author and certain characters, I think there are certain things about them, their relationships, where they came from that a listener forgets (at least this listener forgets!). It was great to refresh on the characters. It is a such an amazing, fast-paced story and you can't go wrong with anything Scott Brick reads!

I would say, if you are a Demille fan and you haven't listened to this, why? If you have listened to it, listen again. You will enjoy it!

Solid Follow-Up to "Plum Island"

I was out of credits, but put this one on the credit card because I enjoyed "Plum Island" so much.

Although I kind of liked "Plum Island" better, this was a good, solid thriller. I love DeMille's character in John Corey. No political correctness here. Cynical--actually hilarious in his cynicism. I found myself actually laughing at his wit; it takes a lot to make me laugh. This author tells a story very well. Long book, but well worth it. DeMille may have spent a tad too much time describing the terrorist's tracking down of his targets, but this is only a minor criticism.

Too much vulgarity for my tastes, but, oh well, what can I do about that? Have to put up with it to enjoy the story.

Scott Brick: One of the best, if not THE best of narrators. He's my favorite right now anyway. This is one of his "straight-laced" performances. Although I prefer his more emotive works, he's still solid five stars when he narrates in this fashion.

I definitely don't regret the credit card charge for this one. Kept my interest. Very entertaining.

John Corey

One of the best characters ever developed. The narrator is excellent, as well. This is a book that is hard to turn off!

DeMille's best book...

I'm and avid reader, (Listener), of Audible Books, more than 600 since I joined the club. The Lion's Game is DeMille's best of all that I have read. I have only returned one of his books and that was because I had actually read the pocket version, possibly, a gift from my kids at Christmas. This one grabbed my interest from the first page and it was difficult shutting off my player, (I was running and it started to rain). If you enjoy Action/Adventure books related to terror, you will love this one.

Great Entertainment!

Plot was an entertaining way to learn about events that affect our safety in the world. I was sorry to have the novel end it was so good. Scott Brick did a really good job as narrator. In the past, I have enjoyed his narrations, listening to many other audio books in which he has provided narration. I highly recommend this novel if you enjoy stories about anti-terrorism. This can enlighten one to see how hatred can begin as a tiny flame killing relatively few and twenty years later erupt in a terrible fire that can destroy countless lives because of national blood feuds between countries with different religious views. Again, great story by Nelson Demille and great narration by Scott Brick. Highly recommend!

I don't normally give 5star reviews but..

This was a great book. Full of intrigue and highly believable . We have no clue what our FBI or CIA are doing and sometimes it is better not to. The characters were performed expertly by Scott Brick. This is not the first book that I have listened to where Scott was the narrator and won't be the last. I think I have already read the sequel but am going to go back and listen to it again.
