Publisher's summary

To survive in a game with no rules at all, John Corey must invent a strategy that includes no luck at all. The hero of DeMille's No. 1 New York Times best seller, Plum Island, Corey has been through a lot, not the least of which was surviving three bullet wounds while serving on the NYPD. Now he signs on with the government's Anti-Terrorist Task Force in an attempt to stop an alleged Libyan terrorist known simply as "The Lion".

The Lion has the instincts of a wild animal, the bloodlust of a carnivore, and the boldness and speed of a cat of prey. And now he's loose in America. Can John Corey stop him? Or has his allotment of luck just run out? Nelson DeMille spins an epic tale of heart-pounding suspense.

Captivating!

This is not my first DeMille book so I knew I was in for a long haul with the 20 hours of listening. I first read Plum Island and quickly was hooked by the main character. This book is quirky, in your face, and leaves you wanting more. Scott Brick was an excellent narrator and thankfully not monotone and you can tell each character apart! Highly recommend!

Wow! Xlnt audio book!

Don't let the length of this audiobook scare you away. The story is very good and moves at a quick pace. While the story is a bit dated after 9/11, it is still an excellent choice

Dont Miss This One

This has to be one of my favorite Audible selections in the 2 years I've been a member. Yes, it's a bit uncomfortable to read post 9/11 as this book alludes to horrors which were yet to come at the time of its writing, but don't let that put anyone off. Scott Brick is a master at weaving you through DeMille's bicoastal pursuit of a Libyan avenger, using perfect timing and near perfect inflection to carry you weightlessly through the 13 hour read. Only one thing made me flinch. No Irish cop from "New Yawk" would say Slayn-tee instead of Slainte (SLAWN- teh) a traditional Gaelic toast. One other minor pronunciation lapse from those of us from Lawng Island... Islip is pronounced EYE-slip. All in all, this deserves more stars than I can give it here.

Amazing, enthralling, captivating book

This was the book that got me hooked on Demille. I've since read Plum Island, the first book to use this character, and both are excellently written. Although Demille's other books usually have military themes, all of them to date are very enjoyable and well written books. If you've never tried his books, I highly recommend this one to get you hooked!

Great story, character and audio performance

John Corey at his best via Scott Brick's perfect narration. Great character in the hands of a master writer.

The Lion's Game

I generally don't submit reviews, but do depend on them when making book selections. But I enjoyed this book so much, I felt compelled to share the experience. This was my first DeMille book, and his writing style is excellant. I chuckled throughout the entire book, and the narrator really brought the saracstic main character to life. If you like a good cop yarn, and enjoy a good laugh, give this book a try.

Enjoyable

Would you consider the audio edition of The Lion's Game to be better than the print version?

I have not read the print version, but I really enjoyed the audible version.

Any additional comments?

Worth the credit!

Enjoyable with a caveat

Would you listen to another book narrated by Scott Brick?

Herein is the problem. Brick has a nice voice - BUT he has the same intonation and inlection for all of the characters which makes it almost impossible to differentiate one from another

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No

Love this guy!

Don't you just love it when John Cory gets into a cab. You just never know what is going to come out of his mouth.

Captivating

I did not want to stop listening. Characters were well developed and believable. And very well narrated.
