Publisher's summary

To survive in a game with no rules at all, John Corey must invent a strategy that includes no luck at all. The hero of DeMille's No. 1 New York Times best seller, Plum Island, Corey has been through a lot, not the least of which was surviving three bullet wounds while serving on the NYPD. Now he signs on with the government's Anti-Terrorist Task Force in an attempt to stop an alleged Libyan terrorist known simply as "The Lion".

The Lion has the instincts of a wild animal, the bloodlust of a carnivore, and the boldness and speed of a cat of prey. And now he's loose in America. Can John Corey stop him? Or has his allotment of luck just run out? Nelson DeMille spins an epic tale of heart-pounding suspense.

One of the Best So Far...

After reading other's reviews I wasn't sure I could add much more praise for this book. However, I for one like to look at the reviews and get a feel for what the majority thinks - and I wanted to be counted as a high recommender of this book. I found myself wanting to listen to my Otis at every given opportunity and even making stuff up so I COULD HAVE the opportunity. You will laugh out loud, you will cringe in disgust, you will feel sorrow and of course how could we not all be reflective after some of our recent history here in America. It certainly made me think and wonder "why". I do have to say that some of my questions were left unanswered which was a little disappointing (hence the 4 stars instead of 5)- I can smell a sequel in the works. I absolutely LOVED the narration by Scott Brick - I hope they get him to read all of Nelson DeMille's work from now on.

"The Lion's Game (Unabridged)".

5 stars

One of the longest I have listened to, but I wish it were longer. I would have given six stars if allowed. A must read.

Quick Brick

When I started listening to Scot Brick narrate this audible, I mentioned to my wife, that despises the breathy speak of Brick, that I really liked his narration of this book. However, at the end there is a sample of the next book, The Lion, read by Brick. He sounded the same as all the other books. I think the producers put him on 1.2 speed for the whole book because when I did that to the sample he sounded as he did in the book I just finished. That aside, the book was a bit verbose and could have been shortened to 20 hours + or -. Some of it is predictable due to the length. giving you time to think about the possible outcomes. I will get the next book because I like Demille.

Kinda hoped the protagonist was killed

I hated the character of John Corey as much as the Lion.... at least I knew why the terrorist was bad... John is basically just the rectal cavity of a recently deceased morbidly obese rhino... for no apparent reason. Sexist, kinda racist with toxic fake masculinity that makes you want to fill him with holes yourself or at least a few bruises and fractures. Few individuals that qualify as being nice justify being hunted for sport more than him. But it was a well written book and full of adventure and action. I’ll listen to the next one only to stop listening to it when I think he’s about to be killed and imagine the ending on my own... he’s that much of a pest. Lol.

WOW WOW - loved it

When The Lion came out I thought I should start in the beginning so I listened to The Lions Game first. Good idea for sure. This was one of the best books yet. If you like insteresting characters, great and relivant story line and action that keeps you going this book and the sequel - The Lion are for you!

Had me hooked from the beginning

John Corey at his best. This is the book that got me hooked on Nelson DeMille. There's a great element of two sides of the coin here, and it's alot of fun to listen to John Corey's wisecracking and Assad Khalil's fanatical obsession.

Excellent, but long...

This was my first Demille read and it was great! It was over 20 hours, but I ended up listening to it on my computer just because I only had 4 hours to go and wanted to continue.

There is much detail in this novel. I liked the way that each chapter changes protagonist from good guy to bad guy until the end when they merge together. It was long, so maybe some of the details were irrelevant, however, I can see how it also added to the storyline. I got to really know the characters.

I would recommend this novel. The narrator was also great, which can make/break the audio book. I tend to avoid the audio books where reviewers have said the narration is bad, better to get a paperback on those.
