Publisher's summary

In this eagerly awaited follow-up to The Lion's Game, John Corey, former NYPD Homicide detective and special agent for the Anti-Terrorist Task Force, is back. And, unfortunately for Corey, so is Asad Khalil, the notorious Libyan terrorist otherwise known as "The Lion". Last we heard from him, Khali had claimed to be defecting to the US only to unleash the most horrific reign of terrorism ever to occur on American soil. While Corey and his partner, FBI agent Kate Mayfield, chased him across the country, Khalil methodically eliminated his victims one by one and then disappeared without a trace.

Now, years later, Khalil has returned to America to make good on his threats and take care of unfinished business. "The Lion" is a killing machine once again loose in America with a mission of revenge, and John Corey will stop at nothing to achieve his own goal - to find and kill Khahil.

What happened to Scott Brick?!!

Scott Brick has been a long time favorite narrator of mine. I relistened to The Lion's Game before listening to The Lion. Scott is fabulous in the first but I didn't even recognize him in the second! He sounds like Howard Cosell!! Scott, please go back to your regular John Corey voice if there is another in the series!

Part II is never as good as the original but...

Its not the lions game, GREAT BOOK! But this one was not bad. Corey was his sarcastic self, a much better book than the last Corey story. Still Night Flight and Lions Game are 5 star Masterpieces, this is one is enjoyable at 4. For those fans that put it at 1 star, please rething your ratings, there are a lot of books that are trash, this book is not close to trash. And as usual a great read by Scott Brick. ! Enjoy!

Great book with a perfect narator.

I love it when they use the same narator from one book to another, it keeps character you already you have formed in your head alive.

Although Scott Brick does a fantastic job as usual, he does start off a little monotone. However, he picks it up quickly.

Loved the book, I hope there is another book in the John Corey series.

Excellent follow-up to The Lion's Game.

You have to listen to (or read) "The Lion's Game" to fully experience this novel. John Correy is at his best here, hiding both his arrogance and his insecurity behind a sharp, sarcastic wit, alternating shocking brutality with unexpected humor. The series was getting a little forced, but DeMille has done a great job with this follow-up.

The story itself has its unbelievable moments, and the main villain, the Lion, has changed, perhaps without the author fully realizing it, since the original. In that one, he was understandable, using violence to avenge wrongs done to Islam and sometimes himself, rarely risking the mission for personal reasons. In this book, he is less coldly rational, more driven and overcome by his desire for personal revenge, more driven by rage than resolve. He is still the calculating mastermind, but more arrogant. The change made him less original, but then again, it's an action thriller, so character consistency isn't really the point.

The story is a great revenge tale, full of danger, heartbreak, brutality, and triumph and all the usual stuff you expect from the drama, mixed with Correy's sarcastic humor and DeMille's excellent writing style. If you liked the first book, you'll like this one. Both writer and reader seem more sharp and inspired than in the previous couple of installments--and those weren't bad, anyway. The only letdowns, in my opinion, was a little less precision in the details--Khalil's murders in the first book were told with horrifying suspense and clarity--and a little less consistency in the characters--both Correy and Khalil do unexplained things that seem at odds with earlier books--but overall it's an excellent John Correy novel.

Huge Corey Fan!

Would you consider the audio edition of The Lion to be better than the print version?

Probably because Scott Brick is able to bring all the characters to life!

What did you like best about this story?

John Corey... funny... tough... smart... and charismatic.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I was thoroughly entertained and intrigued by a field of work I am unfamiliar with.

Any additional comments?

John Corey is a great character with a wonderful supporting cast and great storyline, voiced by the charismatic Scott Brick! The entire John Corey series is addictive, beginning with Plum Island, but be warned... only purchase Scott Brick's audiobooks. Once you tune into him, you won't be satisfied with any other narrator.

One chapter too many...

if you enjoyed "The Lions Game" you will enjoy "The Lion". Someone said "it is not the destination but the journey that counts..." and that is the case here. We all know what the end will be but it is the journey to the climax that makes this book good. The sarcasm, wit, dialogue and personalities make this a book you want to just keep reading. John Corey and Kate Corey are here in full character, love them!!! two issues made me give this 3 stars instead of 4; this book should have concluded at chapter 48 because chapter 49 is over the top melodramatic and plain sappy... I felt it took away from the emotion of the climax... Also Scott Brick is a great narrator but his portrayal of John made him a "Howard Cosell" and to the point of annoyance at times, laughable at other times. Those 2 items took away from the overall satisfaction of the story for me. I do recommend this book if you are a John Corey fan and read "The Lions Game".

Would you try another book from Nelson DeMille and/or Scott Brick?

I want to listen to all of the john Corey books because I like the character.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Some of the scenes dragged especially the fight scenes. I wanted to fast forward.

What about Scott Brick’s performance did you like?

Scott's delivery of the humorous lines made me chuckle.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Probably not. Too gory
