Publisher's summary

In this eagerly awaited follow-up to The Lion's Game, John Corey, former NYPD Homicide detective and special agent for the Anti-Terrorist Task Force, is back. And, unfortunately for Corey, so is Asad Khalil, the notorious Libyan terrorist otherwise known as "The Lion". Last we heard from him, Khali had claimed to be defecting to the US only to unleash the most horrific reign of terrorism ever to occur on American soil. While Corey and his partner, FBI agent Kate Mayfield, chased him across the country, Khalil methodically eliminated his victims one by one and then disappeared without a trace.

Now, years later, Khalil has returned to America to make good on his threats and take care of unfinished business. "The Lion" is a killing machine once again loose in America with a mission of revenge, and John Corey will stop at nothing to achieve his own goal - to find and kill Khahil.

Great book

I loved the sequal to the first "Lions Game", the ending could have been better but still way worth the read.

WOW!

You sort of knew what was coming, but it was exciting all the same. Loved the audible ending!

Better than the prequel.

I listened to this book first and apparently the previous book was actually the first (lions game). This book is better than the first but has a few weak spots. However, overall it was an enjoyable listen.

Scott Brick

Scott has a great voice but he gets into a weird voice drawl like his other books that really isn't all that interesting. I think he could take lessons from Dick Hill.

Kept my attention!

I listen to books in my car and I found myself wanting to drive longer routes to be able to listen more.
Looking forward to more of John and Kate!

"The Lion" gets a roar of approval from me.

I am a longtime fan of Mr. DeMille's work, and found this to be one of his best reads.

Entertaining, but not great

This was the first Nelson DeMille book I have listened to, and I'm not sure I'll be going back for more. It wasn't bad. The story was fast paced and, though I'm usually not a huge fan of Scott Brick, he was really good here and his performance was the best part of the story. The plot itself was a little annoying in a way I can't really explain except that I wasn't satisfied with the convenient way things played out. Also there was some very unpleasant violence. Before this I listened to David Baldacci's "Deliver Us from Evil" which was appallingly violent, but this made some scenes very uncomfortable to listen to. All in all, it was okay. I might go back for another DeMille, but not in the very near future.

Frustrating

In ways. Like the characters and the basic plot.
But there is always something that defies logic and annoys

John Corey needs to live forever

I was so excited when I heard this book was coming out. It's a sequel to the novel "The Lion's Game", and yes, I think you need to read that one first. However, it won't be a chore. The main character, John Corey, is entertaining, funny, sarcastic, lovable and delightfully unpredictable. Added to this brilliant character is some fantastic storyline - a thriller in every sense.

"The Lion" met every expectation, every hope I had about this sequel. The plot was satisfying in that it answered a lot of questions while still being suspenseful and packed with humor - a great combo, in my opinion.

Scott Brick was genius as usual. I've said in other reviews that he IS John Corey - no one else could ever narrate these books but him. Even the author agrees, thankfully. So, no worries about bad narration detracting from the storyline.

I have yet to find a single person who hasn't thoroughly enjoyed the John Corey novels. If you haven't tried it yet, I would ask what you're waiting for.
