Publisher's summary

The best-selling legal thriller - and CBS TV series - has charismatic defense attorney Mickey Haller taking on a slam-dunk court case involving a Beverly Hills playboy - but as it spirals into a nightmare, he finds himself in a fight for his life.

Mickey Haller is a Lincoln Lawyer, a criminal defense attorney who operates out of the backseat of his Lincoln Town Car, traveling between the far-flung courthouses of Los Angeles to defend clients of every kind. Bikers, con artists, drunk drivers, drug dealers - they're all on Mickey Haller's client list. For him, the law is rarely about guilt or innocence, it's about negotiation and manipulation. Sometimes it's even about justice.

A Beverly Hills playboy arrested for attacking a woman he picked up in a bar chooses Haller to defend him, and Mickey has his first high-paying client in years. It is a defense attorney's dream, what they call a franchise case. And as the evidence stacks up, Haller comes to believe this may be the easiest case of his career. Then someone close to him is murdered and Haller discovers that his search for innocence has brought him face-to-face with evil as pure as a flame.

To escape without being burned, he must deploy every tactic, feint, and instinct in his arsenal - this time to save his own life.

Great Legal Thriller, Great Reader

A taut legal thriller from Conelley, whose gritty crime style translates well to the world of his new character: criminal defense attorney Mickey Haller. This guy is REAL. The L.A. locale is real and accurate. The dialogue is crisp, authentic and economical. The reader: Adam Grupper is fantastic. He truly brought Mickey Haller to life. I cannot recommend this title highly enough. I have only found three other books on Audible read by Adam Grupper (only one a novel). I will check them all out, and hope to see his name on more novels in the future.

Great Listen-

Being a police detective I have faced many court situations and defense attorneys. This writing was a very accurate representation of how the court system works. Very good listen. Even though I don't normally cheer for a defense attorney, I was here. Can't wait for the next installment.

I loved it!

I chose this book after reading others recommendations, and I am glad I did. I did not want it to end, and I was almost late to work a couple of times from staying in my car just to listen to a little bit more of it. I highly recommend it.

Plenty of twists in this Connelly Triumph

The Lincoln Lawyer is one of many Connelly books that just make you stand up and applaud this author. This book is sweet. It has some tremendous plot twists you just wont see coming.

The ending is a little weak. It doesn't slam you over your head, but that is not what Connelly is known for. What makes this book great is the pacing and character development. The writing style is crisp and ruthless. Having a new protagonist other than Bosch, Connelly is able to introduce someone to his audience all over again and its fun to see this person come to life.

I enjoy the Bosch series a little more than this one. The stories after Lincoln Lawyer become a little too contrite. But they are all worth reading and this one is a stellar knock out.

Good story - Not crazy about the narration

What made the experience of listening to The Lincoln Lawyer the most enjoyable?

I enjoyed the story. It was suspenseful and kept me interested. I actually watched the trailer and a few clips on Youtube. I originally didn't like Haller at all.. after I watched a few clips, I would just imagine Matthew Mcconaughey and Ryan Phillipe, and that helped.

What did you like best about this story?

Good twists.

What didn’t you like about Adam Grupper’s performance?

He sounded angry the whole time. Plus the other voices just weren't good. I found it pretty annoying, honestly. I almost stopped listening several times and figured I could just watch the movie.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No, not really.

Loved it great entertainment.

If you could sum up The Lincoln Lawyer in three words, what would they be?

Clever, multifaceted and entertaining.

What did you like best about this story?

I just love the skill and care taken to set up the story, just about everything done or said in the early chapters of the book add to the story and is used in later chapters.

Being new to Michael Connelly, it seemed as if most of the detail in the early chapters were not really taking the story forward, oh how wrong I was.

What does Adam Grupper bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Adam Grupper's voice and pacing definitely add an edge to this book.

In my opinion Adam may not be the best narrator around, that honour goes to Saul Reichlin, but I can't imagine anyone doing a better job with this particular book. His voice seemed just perfect for the job.

Any additional comments?

I am downloading the next book in the series now, Mr Connelly you have a new fan.

3-dimensional characters take Connelly to the top

Any Connelly novel is "unputdownable." This entry into courtroom drama begs comparison to John Grisham, but I found it better than any Grisham since The Firm. I recommend The Lincoln Lawyer, or any Michael Connelly novel to readers who like interesting character development along with a gripping mystery plot. Good narration makes it even better.

A Franchise Character

Excellent listen. This is the kind of audio book that makes you drive around the block to just hear a little more. Never minded rush hour traffic while listening to this book. The main character is very interesting. I'm only sorry that I've finished it so quickly.
