Publisher's summary

Alexander McCall Smith’s No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency series has become a worldwide phenomenon thanks to the appeal of endearing protagonist Precious Ramotswe and the author’s charmingly quirky prose. In this 13th installment, Mma Ramotswe’s attention is focused on a pesky disciplinary problem at her adopted daughter’s school - while Grace Makutsi adjusts to wedded bliss and the famed Clovis Andersen arrives in Botswana looking for more than bush tea.

Fun, Contemplative and Well Performed

I always enjoy Alexander Nicole Smith's fun and contemplative style, and he proves that you can write a good story without sex and violence!

Always enjoyable

Love the smooth narration. Her accent is so pleasing to the ear.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

No. The story is always interesting. Never the edge of seat.

Lisette Lecat makes listening more pleasurable than reading these books.

Best so far!

So far, this is my favorite book in the series. There are three different story lines, expertly intermingled. Falwell being unjustly accused of auto theft, Mma Potokwani loosing her job at the orphan farm, and Grace and Phuti having a new home built.
Most interesting is the introduction of Clovis Andersen, author of The Principles of Private Detection.
I listen to this one over and over!

Limpopo Academy

What made the experience of listening to The Limpopo Academy of Private Detection the most enjoyable?

I was so looking forward to hearing this amazing voice actor and the sweetness and delight of the story line typical of the No. 1 Ladies'. I wasn't disappointed. I'm only sad that it will now be a long time before another is ready.

I have to say that sometimes I am irked by the Mma Ramotswe's lack of typical astuteness in favor of some male character knowing what she is oblivious to. That just doesn't seem consistent with her general character.

Other than that, the humor is delightful and the portrayal of the characters through dialogue and Mma Ramotswe's internal musings are very satisfying. I hope that Clovis Anderson chooses to be a part of the yet-unformed Limpopo Academy where Mma Ramotswe will NOT be serving tea for Mma Makutsi.

AMS is such a wonderful storyteller

Would you consider the audio edition of The Limpopo Academy of Private Detection to be better than the print version?

I enjoy the accents and the voices, but would never even compare an audio book to a print book.

Who was your favorite character and why?

These questions have nothing to do with how I would review a book. If you have enjoyed any of the other AMS books in this series, you'll enjoy this one also. The characters are so natural and endearing that I invite them into my day often. I would choose these quirky women to be my own "actual" friends if I encountered.

Which character – as performed by Lisette Lecat – was your favorite?

AMS's books always cause me to marvel that they are written by a man. He has an uncanny insight into the character of women and a great sense of humor about them also.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Again, I dislike the questions of this review. Who cares what I would tag a film of this book to be? Really?

Another Top-Notch Installment

What made the experience of listening to The Limpopo Academy of Private Detection the most enjoyable?

Consistenly solid story, characters, and location. And one of the greatest narrators in audio. Impossible not to have fun with this series unless you're impatient, in which case you're missing all the fun. Reminds us all that the breakneck pace at which we all live does not necessarily mean a better life. Relax... and enjoy it.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Limpopo Academy of Private Detection?

The sudden appearance of a certain well-known off-screen character.

Which character – as performed by Lisette Lecat – was your favorite?

Mma Makutse. Many foibles but a great heart. You find yourself rooting for her despite her shortcomings.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Traditionally-built fun.

Any additional comments?

Hope Mr. Smith never quits this series.
